I just pre-orded a Sager NP9850, a true gaming Laptop that matches the power (if not exceeds) that of Alienware's M17x and for about $400 less. With my laptop I am going to buy extra things such as external cooling fans, a great audio system and of course a gaming mouse and keyboard. I know what to look for in good gaming products however, it has been at least 2 years since I have done any serious gaming and a lot has changed. I have tried to keep up with the times but being in the military has kept me out of the loop and as of right now I cannot decide on what gaming mouse or gaming keyboard to get and it is driving me insane. I have narrowed it down to the products below.

For mice here is what I am looking at (all being in order of my most diserable to my least):

Razer Mamba : I this is my top choice when it comes to a gaming mouse. With Blue lighting and being able to be wired and wireless not to mention, probably the highest sensitivity on the market, make this an excellent gaming mouse. But the steep minium price of $109 and with the only one color selection slightly turn me away.

Razer Lachesis: This is another top choice however, there are two things that bug me. The first is that on Razer's website they list this mouse for FPS games only andthose are which Irarely play. Second is that also on Razer's website they list this as a claw/palm mouse however, I have seen it elsewhere being listed as only a claw mouse and being a palm user myself it would be hard for me if this was only a claw.

    Roccat Kone
: This is a very cool mouse. The ability to change the lighting to (pretty much) whatever color you want and the ability to add or reduce the weight is a high selling point for me. Unfortunately to every positive there is a negitive and from what I can see currently these are only available in the UK and in Europe.

For keyboards I only have 3 choices as well:

Saitek Eclipse III : I have always been a fan of Saitek's Eclipse line and even though they aren't really gaming keyboards I have used one in the past and have had great results. Improved lighting over its previous models and the ability to customize the lighting with several colors makes this a unique keyboard. There havn't been too many reviews for the Eclipse III but when there have been it has received high marks. Its large size might be a problem, but it is something I may be willing to look past.

    Ideazon Merc Stealth
: This is a cool pure gaming keyboard that is basically a backlit version of the older Merc model. It looks cool however, it has an awkward shape and may not suit my needs. I have seen mixed reviews of it though generally positive.

Logitech G19: A large, seemingly great gaming keyboard that has customizable backlitting like the Merc and the Eclipse and also has a small LCD screen that can display stats of the games you are playing. Seems almost too good to be true... well it is since this bad boy comes with a huge price tag often coming in at over $200. And in all honesty I have had a terrible past with many Logitech products.

If anyone also has any other suggestions please feel free to let me know and like I have said I have had terrible run ins in the past with Logitech products, more specifically their mice.

The razer mamba is fantastic, I personally bought a logitech V450 mouse has great senesitvity, 12 months batetry life with smart battery as if you but your computer in sleep or after a set period away your mouse turns off... And with the Extra money I saved I bought a Novint falcon!

Why did you put that first part in :nah: Yes cheaper, but the multipliers are locked, doesn't have slot blu-ray, or the 3 Gpu's with intergrated for 3 hours of battery life when needed, and larger

    Don't get the roccat kone!
The scroll wheel broke off in 2 weeks, a lot of people have this happen to them.
The mouse is really nice until it breaks.
I replaced it with a steelseries ikari laser mouse, it doesnt looks as flashy as the roccat but it's much more durable and works great.

Hopefully in the near future Razer makes a newer version of the Mamba. As still for the keyboard I still can't decide.

The Mamba is a very expensive, very niche device. It includes a mousing engine that you will never use with 5,600 DPI sensitivity. Personally, I don't care for wireless mice, as I have had numerous models fail on me during the most intense firefights. Yes, you can simply just plug the cord in and be done with it, but then the question remains: what are you really paying for in this mouse?

Needless to say, I don't like the Mamba, as I feel it tries much too hard to wow people with its "features" (as well as its price tag) when there are much better (and cheaper) alternatives on the market, such as the Logitech G9 or G9x. Yes, I know you don't like Logitech, but when is the last time you tried a current Logitech mouse? To be honest, I never really liked Razer as a mouse manufacturer anyway, as their mice feel cheaply made, plastic-y, and the finish rubs off much too fast.

One last caveat. The Logitech G9 and G9x, I feel, are superior mice. There is no other mouse product available that allows you to use customized grips to fit your playstyle. Personally, ergonomics trounce a 5,600DPI sensor, especially considering that the G9 series use a 3,200DPI+ sensor... which again, you're never going to top out at while playing.

AYYYYYYYYY!!!! Razer OWNS!!! lol but srsly its much better in mice compared to logitech imo. Ive owned a lot of logitech mice (3 wireless ones, G5 etc) and i can say my Mamba is well...SO MUCH better. The ergonomics, the wireless freedom and best technology all in one mouse. I got mine for a discount, if i didnt, i would prolly wouldnt have got it. The next best choice is Razer Deathadder. Mamba/DA ergonomics are THE BEST ergonomics for **palm** grippers. I must say tho that although i like razer, logitech's G9/G9x are seemingly good for **claw** grippers, but thats irrelevant in your case. Get Mamba if u have the money (keep in mind its a frickin mouse...ur spending 110USD on a DAM MOUSE??) or just get the much cheaper but still great DA (only doesnt have 5600dpi, wireless, two extra buttons and that great casing). Razer has great mice products.

The Razer Lycosa is also great, although i would think that Logitech is better than Razer in the kb section. All my wireless Logitech kb have been great, having all the extra buttons that ive used to my likings. G19 is a gimmick, dont get it. When is a time gonna come where u are gonna use that screen while ur in an intense fragfest?? NOO!!! Stick with any of there wireless/wired (dinovo/g15/illuminated kb), which are all great. Or even the Saitek Eclipse series look good as well.

I'd also consider the Logitech G9 (it has 3200DPI and I think the G9x has 5400/5600 dpi). I got one a few weeks back when they were having a sale for $20 after rebate. Its nice and you can customize the weight and grips.

For keyboard, as you said the Saitek III doesn't really add much for gaming other than the lights to play in the dark.

I have a Merc Stealth and its nice but there is a learning curve to get used to the unorthodox setup of the keys on the "gaming side" on the left. Also, if you get used to it gaming on other keyboards may feel weird (example if you go to a friends house or LAN party and use a regular keyboard. You may not want to lug the whole Merc Stealth). That's kinda why I changed to a Belkin Nostromo N52 since its smaller and I can use a regular keyboard with it. Its small enough that I can take it to a friends house/LAN party whatever to use as well.

I don't know if anyone in here has ever heard of Deck Keyboards but they are known as being the most well built as well as the brightest backlit keyboards on the market. They make a keyboard called the Deck 82. It is a smaller keyboard aimed towards gamers with 82 keys but it has some serious backlit capabilities. It doesnt have the option to set up macros but to be honest I have never used them and I have played games like WoW, Star Wars Galaxies and City of hereos. What do you guys think ability these keyboards?

I use the relatively 'tame' Logitech MX518 mouse......my keyboard isn't a traditional 'gaming' board per se, but is great nonetheless: check it out.

Both would serve quite well if your tastes run a bit more casual.

I would highly recommend Razer mice, although I'm not sure on the models you have above.

The higher DPI I would think would only be useful for FPS or other "360 head turning" games, where you need lightning fast responses or your dead.

Personally I have the Razer copperhead - affordable, 1600DPI (which is more than enough for me), and very reliable.

I'm a hardcore gamer, and this mouse lives up to all my expectations and more. I can't see me going any higher DPI wise, it's extremely sensitive at 1600DPI =-P

the mamba is a really nice mouse i paid the normal price from newegg which is 129$ but i say its worth it the best mouse i had and tried.

and i like all the dpi settings at first i thought anything higher than 1600dpi was useless but when i got the mamba 1600dpi just felt slow for me in gaming lol on windows like internet i use 1200 to 1600 which is fine but for gaming i use higher usely over 2000dpi.

and having wireless and wired was the big selling point for me sense sometimes i take the mouse with me with my laptop and i just use the wire.

and at home i just unplug it and go wireless :)

and the feel of the mouse is really nice heck it even beats my logitech mx1000 1600dpi which i loved the feel of that till i got my mamba :)

my main mouse was a razer diamondback 1600dpi which i loved that mouse but the mamba is now :)

it was the mamba or the logitech g9 but i picked the mamba because i allways loved how the razers felt and looked.

and to me it was worth the 129$

and for the keyboard i have the saitek cyborg which is a very nice keyboard has great lighting macros the keys really feels nice.

i usely allways go with saitek for keyboards because they dont get as worn as other keyboards like my logitech keyboard that came with my mx1000 think it was a mx3200 combo or something like that. than i got the saitek eclipse first gen and that keyboard is still holding up which is going over 3years :)

same as the logitech but the keys is really worn and doesint feel right as they use to... so hopefully my new saitek cyborg will last me as my frst gen eclipse did.

I Like to add Logitech G5 (blue) into discussion.

High dpi is only useful when you are playing on high resoltions.

I like the Mamba and the DeathAdder... I also like Microsoft's Habu. My laptop won't be ready probably till August so I have a lot of time to go over my options however, it is going to be one of the three listed above.

I would have gotten the Roccat Kone but lost of people have set it falls apart and I don't think there is any support in the USA.

I have used Saitek Eclipses in the past and they have worked fine that I why I am leaning towards the Saitek Eclipse III. Decks are sturdy but they are more on the expensive side. Ideazon's Merc Stealth looks awesome but it is a pure gaming board and I don't know if thats good or not.

Go with Logitech for both mouse and keyboard. I used to be a huge Razor fan and had like all their mouse. However their support is just not as good as Logitech's. I needed some new mouse feet and Razor told me to buy some on my own. Logitech immediately sent me a new set. When my mouse Copperhead I had to send it in and wait. Logitech sent me a brand new one and told me to keep the old one.

Honestly I can't stand logitech products. Like I have said before I have had terrible experiences with their mice and keyboards and a few years ago I got a logitech mic and it broke. I jumped through hoops trying to get a replacement and overall it was just a bad experience.

But anyways I think I am going for the Mamba. I really like its design and at Best Buy I got to hold one in my hand and it was awesome, very comfortable too. I also just saw some mice comparrasion on G4 that my cousin recorded and Mamba won almost every category every time. I will admit the only real bad thing about it is the price but I can overlook that for one great mouse.

As for a keyboard I have no idea... I liked the Decks but then I went back to the Merch Stealth and then I still like the Eclipse III so I don't know what I am going to do for a keyboard... yet.

yea man, Mamba is awesome. Everything about it is just so....AWESOME!! The specs, the ergonomics, wireless freedom, depth of customization etc. You cant go wrong with it. Now that i think of it, i actually do think its worth the 110 USD :D

Considering that the Habu is a somewhat 'roided-out version of the Razer DeathAdder, I wouldn't doubt it. Still, it's your decision and your money. Just make sure you are paying that money for technology you know that you'll use, not just because it sounds/looks cool.

I am using a Logitech G5 for 2 years now and I'm 100% pleased. I really believe anything more expensive will not make you play better, the G5 seems to get the job done ;)

As of a gaming keyboard, I would only think of a Logitech G11 and it's new and reduced price. That would be a real deal...

I have a $30 worth of Reward Zone points at Best Buy so I think I could just get my mouse there. Its between the Habu and the Mamba and this point.. I could end up getting the Mamba for 100 bucks. Or the Habu for like 20.

they ran some "mouse objective benchmarks" ,google it. The most demanding mouse apps = low resolution fps. Razers sucked hard, mx518 good. Very surprising results. Optical is better.

I had a G9 and currently using Razer Mamba ._. IMO I really like the mamba over the G9 since it fits my palm more perfectly and I actually use the sensitivity on FPS games (I'm a high sensitivity player). Never ran into any problems as of yet with it... Except for the first time when I updated my Mouse's firmware... >.> Fixed it... My own bad since I missed one vital part of the installation instruction

I don't really understand the chart above ^ But if I am reading it right it is saying that the deathadder has one of the best controls but it has a malfunction speed?
