My main computer atm is a late 2013 macbook pro which I am also using for gaming on, mainly playing TF2, with a bit of portal and sometimes some xcom or civ 5.
I've had a razer deathadder for a few years now and it worked perfectly with my old sony laptop. With my new mac though there's some annoying glitches that make gaming rather tricky. It will often register me holding down the mouse button as a double click and will in general sometimes skip around a bit (although the second bit might be due partly to the surface, although I never had a problem with my sony).
Are there any gaming mice that are known for playing well with macs? I've been tempted to give the R.A.T mice a try just because I think they look interesting but don't want to spend the money if it's just going to be really buggy as well.

If you're using Razer Synapse with your DeathAdder, uninstall it, and try SteerMouse to see if that doesn't fix your double-clicking and tracking issues. It's a fully-functional 30-day demo. A license costs $20, and as far as I know, it's lifetime so you should never have to pay for future updates.
I have a Logitech G602. While Logitech has software available for OS X, it's extremely buggy. SteerMouse does everything I need. About the only thing it doesn't do is allow for a battery check by pressing one of the buttons, but that's not a feature I use anyway. I know darn well when the battery needs to be replaced. -
Have you confirmed that the mouse issue is software side and not hardware side? Try your Razer DA on windows PC and see if it doubleclicks/malfunctions.
The "double click" issue might be your mouse switch wearing out. You can buy replacement in ebay or amazon (model for razer DA: DF2C-F-7N Omron). -
Try your old mouse in a different computer and see if it still malfunctions. The double-click issue sounds like the mouse button's micro switch is worn out.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. As I mentioned it was working fine with my sony laptop before I got my mac but I guess it could just be an unfortunate coincidence. I'll try and find another computer I can give it a go with.
As for the nothing above the R.A.T 3 comment, out of curiosity why do you say that? I haven't really looked into them much but just like the look of the customisation options (my ideal mouse is what might be considered an unusually long slim tall mouse). -
The A3090 (S3090 on Zowie mice) is currently the third best gaming sensor that you can get your hands on.
I would not consider the TE/TwinEye sensor on the newer RAT mouses. Sure they have high DPi without sacrificing acceleration issues like laser mouse, but TE sensors have some fatal flaws.
1. Z-Axis bug - When lifting mouse up, the mouse cursor jerks to bottom right or left. Very annoying issue.
2. Z-Axis click bug. If you press the mouse button and your mousepad sinks (usually on cloth mats like QCK) - Issue #1 repeats itself, but now you have random "twitch" movement
3. Oversensitivity to vibration and dust. The sensor lens getting dirty = cursor unusable.
4. Axis lockup - sometimes one of the axis of the mouse locks up, moving horizontally or vertically is not possible for a short while.
5. Sensor axis failure. One of the X or Y "eye" dies, mouse can only track horizontally or vertically.
TL;DR - Get a RAT3 because the sensor is the best in the RAT lineup.
Out of curiosity, what Hz do you poll your DA? Try going below 1000hz if possible, the new Mac OS might have a similar problem like the Win8 gaming mouse issue.
Might be a good idea to update the firmware (don't use a firmware that has drift correction enabled)
