So DPI is how many dots it covers per inch or something like that. First of all, can someone recommend a good "standard" DPI to set it at? I use a g700s and have it set to 600 cause I assumed that would help the battery life
The main issue, when I game, I've noticed that if I want to click on something right next to the cursor, the micro movement I do on the mouse doesn't register. Is this an issue of DPI? Or should I just turn up my mouse sensitivity, which is already pretty high.

You want to turn up the dpi and turn down the mouse sensitivity. Make sure the mouse sensitivity in windows is stuck exactly in the middle, and then adjust the mouse DPI to taste.

Like Qing Dao said, set the mouse sensitivity in the control panel to the very middle setting. Any other setting causes acceleration issues.
DPI is purely personal choice. The higher the DPI, the less you have to move the mouse to cover the same distance on screen. Starting at 800 or 1200 DPI is a good "starting point", and then tune the settings from there to suit you tastes. -
Are you saying you have to move the mouse more than you should to get it to move just a little? Or that it doesn't always register when you move it? For the first one, do as suggested above, set the dpi higher. And I don't think it will affect battery life, so try various settings until comfortable. Also, 600 is pretty low, try 1000, or 2000, or something else higher. And turn down the sensitivity or acceloration.
For the second issue, you may try a different mouse pad. It could be your mouse is not detecting movement because the surface is too smooth or doesn't have enough detail.
Gaming mouse: sounds like stupid question but hear me out..how to increase sensitivity when I BARELY move the mouse
