I have a cousin that produces music and recently got him a Aorus X5S V5 (i7 6700, GTX 980). Now I want to get him basic gear that he could use when he's working on his music. I've been thinking on an audio interface and some good headphone, he already has a midi keyboard.
I've found this:
• Audio interface: BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UM2
• Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-AD700
What do you think?, I want to get cheap stuff, he's not a profesional (yet) so I just want to give him some stuff he can start with. Also if you think of another thing that could be useful that I'm missing let me know!
Thanks in advance.

I think you have two solid choices there. I know I would Love to receive those as gifts if I were getting into music production.

I've been thinking lately about a good pair of monitors but I'm kinda lost there too, In my limited audio experience a good pair of speakers need to handle good low and high frequencies (i.e. 5hz to 50Khz) but I don't know if there's another metric or value that can help me take a decision. Maybe drivers model? capacitors quality? plugs?

Given that at most some select few individuals can hear up to 22Khz, I dont think you will find a speaker on the market that will hit 50Khz, unless its a piezo transducer for an ultrasonic cleaner or plastic welding.
You want a speaker with as flat of a response curve as possible, with a sensitivity in the 90dB/W/m range at least, and low THD+N(in the 0.0x% range).
Good response(good as in less than 20dB compared to the overall response curve) below 20Hz will need either external woofer in a big/gigantic box(think concert speakers large).luisxd likes this. -
On the audio channel, you should at least get 4 channel if you can, if not the double channel is better than one. It will be better long term and he'll learn more of the foundational skills for mixing sound. I used to do a bit of music recording and editing back in the day and multi-channel audio is really fun to play with.
