I will be getting a 32 inch TV to game on, but am not sure if i should get 720P or 1080P. The laptop i will use it with has a 8800GTX, X9000 and 4 GB ram.

    What would you guys recommend?

WIth 720P i would be able ti run at higher settings and AA, but in 1080 lower settings and no AA.

You CAN use 720p res on a 1080p screen if its a performance problem, but you cant use 1080p on a 720p screen if you wanted.

That in mind I find 720p is fine for movies & should be good for games, but its not good enough for other windows/desktop type related stuff like web browsing, or even just the desktop itself is small and not very friendly.

If its for any kind of computer work definitely get 1080p, if its only for movies/games you can get away with 720p.

In line with the above question I would like to find out what exactly is the difference between the 60Hz refresh rate and 120Hz. I would like to buy a LCD HDTV and it looks like the 60Hz are way cheaper than the 120Hz. Will the refresh rate make any difference whether its 720p or 1080?

Not really its the same aspect ratio so it does not have to distort the image, it will lose a bit of sharpness but you wont notice unless you had a 720p TV right next too it.

I used a 37" for a Monitor for a long time so it was only about 2' away from me. I can tell you 1080p is needed for that because if I had a 720p instead I would be seeing the space between the pixels and thus would observe that "screen door effect" witch is far worse than a bit of sharpness lost.

Im sure you will have some games you can run at 1080p just fine as well, not all games take a huge hit moving from 720p to 1080p resolution.

If your going to be further away from the screen like normal console/tv viewing distance then the loss of sharpness by upscaling the 720p to 1080p on the TV is even harder (impossible) to observe.

You can always just use 1:1 with the black bars on the sides too if you want no up-scaling.
