Recently I bought a new HDTV with HDMI and component inputs, but the laptop I'm looking to buy only supports VGA, so I was wondering if there were any cables that I could use to get from VGA to component/HDMI. I know there are adapters for DVI to HDMI and for DVI to VGA, but can you do the same for HDMI to VGA, and if not, would it work to just plug 2 adapters into each other?

There are devices available that convert VGA into DVI or component. They are a couple hundred bucks at the cheapest, and the picture quality isn't great.
I think you're SOL. If you're buying a new laptop anyways, why don't you just buy one that meets your requirements?

As mentioned, the quality won't be as good as HDMI/DVI if it's been converted from VGA since the latter is digital, the former is analog.
Looking at another notebook is an option, or look for a HDMI/DVI Express Card. Either way, you'll spend at least $150~ on solving it, perhaps it would be a better idea to look for another notebook? -

They make hdmi express cards!?!?! is it true hdmi quality?

Nope, they don't have it 'yet'. It was only recently that an HDMI PCI Express card for desktops came out, I'll say a good 4-6 months before an Express Card slot peripheral will come out.
