I was wondering if someone could suggest some nice bluetooth mice. I'm going to be getting a new laptop soon and since I don't have any bluetooth on my current machines I'm a bit clueless about which ones are are good and which ones are not.
Also was wondering what the old style keyboard connectors are called (what keyboards used to connect before USB). I'm looking to find a ______ to USB connector and want to know what I should be looking for.
Thanks in advance.

I've heard many positive remarks about the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, as well as the Logitech V470 Bluetooth Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks. Both can be periodically found for under $35 on Amazon, but currently, there aren't any spectacular deals going on.
The "old style" connector is the PS/2 connector, and these are what you're looking for. -
I have the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Mac/Windows, it's a great, reliable & durable BT Mouse: here,
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Blu...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1239339265&sr=8-1
Normally, you can get it for around $34....right now..it's overpriced.
And, here are a few more good ones..

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000

The Logitech VX Nano..is extremely popular with fellow peeps on the forum!
It has a tiny receiver, and is an excellent mouse!

Hope that helps~!

The 5000 looks nice but I guess I will wait till it drops down in price some. The V470 is a bit too blue for my taste. Thanks Cin' and MidnightSun for those suggestions.
The 8000 and VX Nano are also very tempting. Especially since the 8000 seems rather cheap now. Hmmm thanks Cin' for those suggestions.
Thanks a lot MidnightSun for the port links, that is exactly what I am looking for. For some strange reason my wireless keyboard comes with one of those and not a USB... a bit strange. -
Do what I did and get both the VX Nano and the MS 5000 BT mouse - I am torn between the two although I feel the Nano is the better of the two when it comes down to it as I use it more.
But the 5000 is very handy when I need the extra USB port on my lappy (that is where the Nano falls over on a notebook with only 2 USB ports...lol) -

I also have that mouse and it gets the job done. Decent battery life and it is well-built. It also comes with a nice little cloth case.
The problem with Bluetooth is the technology itself - it is prone to signal cut-outs, lag, and interference. There's a reason I only use my Bluetooth mouse for general tasks. 98% of the time it works flawlessly, but that other 2% I have horrible lag and non-responsiveness. So, be prepared for some issues. -
I use a Kensington Trackball Slimblade, it's pretty slick and can be a regular mouse or a trackball.
-
Speaking about Bluetooth mouses - I've used a Vaio BMS33 since I have my SZ.
Its doing a good job for me.
I think most "known brands" will give you a reliable product
-
I have the Razer Pro|Click mobile bluetooth mouse and I love it. There's no lag what-so-ever, and it's been a good mouse for me so far. I'm going to buy the DeathAdder now just because I dropped the pro|click on the floor a couple of times and now it's not working anymore...

Logitech V470 never dissapointed me
-
Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 work excellent IMHO. Connects to internal BT module very easily. A good battery lasts 2-3 months.
-
Are any of the above mice close to the size of a normal desktop mouse? I've always hated trying to use small mice...

The below are all 'small' mice that fit in the palm of your hand. If you don't like small mice, they are probably not for you.
-
Ok so I'm trying to decide between the Microsoft 5000 and the Logitech VX
which one would you recommend between the two?
Which ones is bigger, and which one would be more comfortable for playing games and such? -
Logitech VX is a little bit "advanced" compared to Microsoft one, you get more features with it. But there is a big difference between them. Microsoft uses a internal bluetooth modul and if you don't have one in your NB than you don't have a mouse. Logitech uses one USB slot so have in mind that you will always have one USB slot less for your usage. Depending on how many you have in your NB, this may or may not be an issue. Also if you don't have a BT modul, you can always buy USB Bluetooth, which will then again use one USB slot.
I don't have any problems using Microsoft 5000 when playing games, it's not too small IMHO. -

For gaming I strongly suggest a wired mouse or at the very least a traditional wireless mouse. As I noted on the first page of this thread, Bluetooth is prone to drop-outs/connection interruptions and not nearly as reliable as traditional wireless. -
I have two of the MS Bluetooth 5000 mice. They work great but:
1). They go through the AAA batteries every 2-3 weeks with normal usage. I have NiMH (750-900 mAH) AAAs so it's not costing me a lot of money in batteries.
2). I get the occasional hiccup where the BT Mice stops working and regains connection with the laptop. It is annoying but it doesn't do it all the time
3). The mice takes like 2 seconds to wake up - you have to slap it or move it around.
4). The sides are covered in this rubberized coating that flakes off after a few weeks.
5). overall, very compact and easy to use. -
You could try Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000. It's a normal big size mouse.
I own Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 and Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 (almost similar name). Both are laser mice. The first one is a true desktop bluetooth mouse and the presenter is a portable bluetooth mouse with a lot of presentation features.
Look at comparison pictures below to see how they are different in size:
-
i've had mine for about 4 months and have not experienced any flaking on the sides of the mouse. also, i'd say batteries have lasted me 1-2 months
also, i like the overall size and feel and button feedback.
the one issue i have with the mouse is that 'back' button which i accidentally click once in awhile. is there an easy fix for disabling it? -
I bought the two BT 5000 mice around November 2008. Both of them had the rubberized texture flake off the sides. I don't abuse the mice, but it seems my hands secrete oil that doesn't bode well for plastic and rubber surfaces. The plastic Dell optical mouse I have at work is rubbed smooth, as are 90% of my keys on the keyboard. Anyhow, I can just peel away the rubberized texture to remove the plastic base on the 5000.
What kind of batteries do you use?
I found that in a worst case scenario, I need to recharge my NiMH AAA's every 3 weeks, but I've *had* them last over a month. I never shut off my mice either because I read the on/off switch can break very easily.
My solution for the back button is to learn to use it. It comes in very handy. I miss that button when I use the mouse I have at work. -
V450 is the best for me. A little bigger Vx with nano receiver.
-
I just recieved my Dell 5-button Bluetooth Travel Mouse, and it's fantastic. 5 buttons is an absolute must for me, and there were plenty of otherwise good Logitech and Microsoft Bluetooth mice out there, but lack of 5 buttons is a real deal-breaker for me.
No drivers or software needed. I put in the batteries, turned on the switch, synchronized it via the Windows control panel, and that's it. -
Danke!
I just got the standard dark grey. It's too dark for a pic right now, and the one light in my room has a burned out bulb, so perhaps a pic is in order for tomorrow. -
Thanks for the pic! Which of the two do you prefer? How is the connection strength between them and the pc? Does the connection restart frequently?
Thanks again for the info. -
Well... Actually there's no preference. Each goes with different necessity. The bigger one stays with my Dell Studio 17, which is as a desktop replacement, it's a never leave the house notebook. And the Presenter is paired with my Dell Inspiron Mini 9, which I carry around more often.
I don't see any different in connection strength. Both are sufficient in term of range. But I've never really used them too far away from the notebooks, maybe only 3 to 4 meters for the big one when I use it from the couch and around a small classroom of 50 m2 for the Presenter one. FYI, I paired them only with the internal bluetooth modules of the notebooks, never use both Microsoft's USB transceivers.
Hmm... I don't think that there are any restarts in the connection, although hiccup happens occasionally when the system is in very high CPU utilization or very low in resources. But it never really gets to the point that bothers me. -
I read somewhere that the frequency of the VX will interfere with WiFi... is that correct?
-
I have a Microsoft 5000 bluetooth mouse and a Sony VGPBMS33 bluetooth mouse. The MS mouse works flawlessly and is an excellent buy, but the Sony mouse has a better feel, and seems to have a higher build quality. I think they're both good products and would recommend either one of them.
Good Bluetooth Mice?
