I am looking for a monitor that will display my laptop and Xbox 360 both well. My current monitor, Samsung SyncMaster 940bw, doesn't allow me to manually size the image from the 360 to fit the screen properly. Any good monitors that are 19+ in. that can handle manually sizing the image and have HDMI ports would be best. Thanks.

Any of the many 24"+ display that run 1920x1200 should work fine as anexternal monitor for both the laptop and Xbox 360. HDMI port is not necessay as you can always get a HDMI to DVI cable (which just lose the audio signals). you won't lose anything as most monitor does not have speakers anyway.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if you've got a 1440x900 (WXGA+) native res on a laptop, would that work with the 1920x1200 monitor? Or would you just lower the res on the monitor?

You can user higher resolutions on an external monitor, but you are somewhat limited to whatever your graphics card can handle.

Once the external is plugged in, you should have additional options under display properties to set the proper res for it.

Yeah I think my video card can handle the resolutions because my native res on my laptop screen is 1680x1050, and I have a nVidia GeForce 8600M GT 512MB card.

But does anybody know of any good monitors that work well with the 360, as in the image fit correctly in the screen. (hard to explain) "The Xbox 360 supports the following resolutions when using the VGA AV connector: 640×480, 848×480, 1024×768, 1280×720, 1280×768, 1280×1024, 1360×768, and 1920×1080." So do any monitors work with 1920x1080 resolution?

Do you have the VGA adapter for the xbox? There should be an option in the 360 to resize the screen. If you can't then there's an underscan problem and you should try switching to component.

AS far as the 1920x1080 vs 1920x1200, i think it's cuz the xbox is going for 16:9 which is regular HD resolution. Whereas most laptops and monitors are 16: 10.

You probably won't notice the difference in actual use.

Oh thats probably why the image seems to be weird. I guess there's nothing really to do to fix that. I will try to get a 1920X1200 screen.

There are plenty of HDTV that supports 1920x1080 but they are usually 32" or larger. Also you can usually turn off the scaling on a 1920x1200 monitor and it will display 1920x1080 with a bit of a black bar on top and bottom of the screen.
