I do not have a TV. I do not want a TV in my home.

I do however like to watch DVDs. I've been playing them on my laptop (ASUS z70va) hooked up to a 20" widescreen Dell Monitor I bought a couple of years ago.

I want a better set-up. I want all the bangs and whistles of a good home theater -- but with no TV. No tuner in place. (This to prevent any TV watching in my home.)

I would like a good sized external monitor of high quality. (I know this is probably impossible without a tuner but a 50" or thereabouts widescreen flat panel is what I would really like.)

Can I do this with a computer and additional equipment? Or do people have any other suggestions.

    50" monitor = TV.

Quite frankly, all TVs are large monitors.

Beware of bad quality LCD from Westinghouse. As in picture quality. There's a reason why their LCDs are cheap. Check it out before you buy. Try not to buy online, unless you've already checked it out in person.

They are definitely not top of the line LCDs but they are comparable to any other 47" LCD as only one panel manufacturer offers this panel size.

Large screen with no tuner? So in other words what you want is a HD Projector ^^

I also own westinghouse and its quality is great, on par with the more expensive sharps & samsungs just the model I have you have to buy online, they do not have it in store (they have a cheaper one, and they purposely hook it up to a bad signal to make the expensive monitors look better)

Please check out my review of my 37" HD LCD and see if it fits the bill, its the best thing I ever bought for my computer period and not a single day goes by even over a year later that I do not look at my monitor with joy.

And as for the projector recommendation, check this review out its a fellow forum member that just got a nice 720p projector that I think is quite nice.

Witch model Nizzy? I know about 15 people that have the one I have, it was a big hit for awhile as the cheapest way to get a huge 37" high quality computer monitor. Much better alternative to a 3 monitor surround setup IMO.

What I said above is not something I made up by the way about how retail stores take the cheaper brand like westinghouse and hook it up poorly on purpose to boost sales of there higher priced products. Its called salesmanship (or deception take your pick).
