Good headset for gaming/commentaries?

Not an original post, of course.

I'm looking for a headset for gaming and commentaries, which means I would like a noise cancelling mic. I like to livestream my games and comment, but it's problematic with an integrated mic or other mics that capture ALL sounds. At the moment I have used a pair of Sennheiser HD202's and HD201's along with the integrated laptop mic. Then I switched to an old pair of Creative Fatality's. Both options didn't really suffice for me. I want a noise cancelling mic, some surround sound, decent quality sound (i'm not an audiophile), and comfort (i wear glasses and don't really want something that grips onto my head tightly).

Now, my choices, so far I have looked at the G35. I can purchase it from Logitech directly with a 25% coupon code for 98$~, which I think is the best price I'll get.

But 98$ still seems quite expensive to me. It's not that I can't afford it, but generally the cheaper the better.

Any other suggestions? Or should I not waste money going for a mediocre product and go for the G35 or stick with my old setup.

 

I think the G35 will do a good job. Other options around that price with decent / better mics, for example the Beyerdynamic MMX 2, are not as good all-rounders.

I suppose it depends on how important the mic pickup is compared to all the other attributes - the pickup on the G35 is a little like the Sennheiser PC 350 and many other midrange headsets: a little 'radio-sounding', but trying to get better pickup will cost more than the figure you mentioned.

I use the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 as my primary headset (although the G35 also gets a lot of use on my gaming PC), which has major improvements in terms of mic pickup quality, resulting in a much more 'natural' sound, over the ~$150 sets - but then it costs a lot more.

 

i cant really say much about the g35 audio quality since im no audiophile but the channel separation in games like for example left 4 dead is fantastic.You can always tell which direction something is coming from before it makes its appearance so be prepared to being called a wall hacker because it gives you that much of an advantage .

It sounds Great but like i said im no audiophile. I have recorded myself using the headset and it records real well. (i recorded some audio samples of my voice for a voice acting job and the agent said they sound real good)

I also wear glasses and can tell you that these are the most comfortable headsets ive worn in a long time.

 

I'm getting the Razer Megalodeon. I don't have it but I have read reviews that sya it is awesome, and all Razer products are great (except their keyboards).

 

I like some of their mouses, but I think Razer is kind of overrated and pricey for the lack of quality.

 

Razer's retail prices are extremely overpriced for the quality of goods, but most of there products sell for far less then retail after a few months. I've picked up a few of their mouses and headphones in the $20-$30 range.

 

I have the Lycrosa and it's pretty bad. The keys often stop registering and tech support is ignoring me now. Very overpriced and questionable. The mice are decent though.

 

Logitech is apparently really solid, but I don't know much about other keyboards. Bought the Lycosa on a whim.

 

Do not get the lycosa. (i own one myself, and it has so many bugs with it)
Sometimes the keys doesn't register at all, and the touch panel totally fails.

 

are you implying that the g35 is not these things because if so then you must have never handled a g35.

 

I use this, and its been great. Not noise canceling but a closed ear design.

I've seen the Plantronics 367/377. Those seem pretty cheap and in many cases price signals quality.

How's the noise cancelling on the mic on those? And on the Logitech G35? Since the broadcasting catches everything and is not like push to talk, I don't want it to capture background sounds.

 

I used the 377 for a while, and it was great. Definitely worth more than it costs, I think.
