If there's no mic I'd assume you want headphones? A few questions first so we can help you better... :)

1- What kind of music do you listen to? Do you have any preferences in terms of sound qualities(ex: you like thumping bass)?

2- Do you want closed or open cans? Closed means better isolation. Open means better sound usually but that means the sound will bleed(if you're using these in public or around others it'd be a bad idea since they would hear what you're listening to).

3- Where is the sound coming from? Is it your iPod or your computer? Some headphones are harder/hungrier to drive and a simple mp3 player sometimes doesn't cut it with some of those.

Sennheiser HD 555's are a really nice set of headphones, but they're open not closed.

For closed headphones in that range, I'd probably recommend you take a look at the Audio Technica A700.

I have the 555 from Sennheiser and they are awesome after a 50 hour burn-in. There is the 280 which is closed you should take a look at it.

If you're going to be using them in your room (assuming nobody else is around), then open would probably be better.

The JVC HA-RX900 are a pretty awesome semi-open set around $50. Folks at Head-Fi say they sound like much more expensive headphones.

As for a $50 mouse, check out the Razer DeathAdder, $45 at Amazon. 3,500 DPI optical, 5 buttons, left and right-handed versions, and the most comfortable form factor I've ever used.

how reliable are razers? i had a friend and he doesn't recommend those mice because his broke down a little under the year and the grips died on him really easily. of course this will all be on the steel series qck+ mousepad, so i doubt the grips under the mouse will die. it looks nice, i have to say that.

I have an original DeathAdder from 2007 and a newer model DeathAdder and an Orochi from 2009, and a Mamba from last year, none of which have had any trouble yet.

Sometimes you just get unlucky, and it happens no matter who you buy from. Razer, Logitech, Steelseries, Microsoft, Saitek, etc. There are always defective products. But anyway, that's what warranty is for. On the off chance that something goes wrong (within two years of buying it), they'll replace it for you.

On that note, how do grips "die"?

well he played on a wooden surface and not on a mousepad. so might be a reason they wore off. Ima take a look in bestbuy/microcenter to see the feel of the mouses and then order it online.

I like my Audiotechnica ATH-M50's. They are usually found online for just under or about $100 shipped. They are a closed-ear studio monitor that is very flat and neutral. Very comfy and block out a substantial amount of noise.

+1 for ATH-M50 and Razer Deathadder. Both are good.

Ive had my razer mouse and keyboard for about 2 years now and its still performs good.

I got the sennheiser hd 448. Had it for close to a year now and its awesome. Take it with me between classes and put it in my backpack for when I can't wear them. Still look brand new. Although, they can get moderately loud with the volume set at 50% from my ipod (meaning that its very apparent to other people), but that is to be expected from such over the ear headphones.

I believe they were $99 off of amazon when I got them and I would highly recommend them.
