I just spent €25 on a Logitech LX3 and I feel kind of disappointed. It shakes whenever I make small movements on it, jumps and feels inaccurate. I've had cheaper mice that were better, I've no idea why it's doing this. The only time it feels stable is when I use it on the wood surface underneath, but then it drags too much.
The mouse pad I'm using is fine as far as I can tell. This really sucks. Is there a special mousepad I need?

Some people have mentioned that using the Logitech setpoint drivers helps with the tracking, so you could try that first and see if you notice any improvements.

I am completely happy with my VX Nano. I would say make sure that you have the latest drivers and that your mouse speed and set it set to an acceptable level.

Kittie Rosie................Get ur self the logitech 5.0 setpoint software from logitech.com...........a seelseries mouse pad.....ny u will have no troubles at all.....the mouse u have is a nice one............

I'm using a VX Revolution here and I love it. I personally don't like the logitech setpoint software though because everytime you finish using your mouse, your touchpad will revert back to its default windows settings rather than the ones u set before u plugged the mouse in. I find it tracks perfectly fine using windows even for FPS games.

I don't think the setpoint software should have an impact on the tracking of the mouse. I just used the software to enable a few extra buttons of my mouse. In fact I uninstalled setpoint all together eventually(since I realized I didn't need the functionality of those extra buttons after all) and am just using my logitech with the drivers from the OS. Putting the mouse on a good mouse pad might help. If this doesn't help then I would consider selling it and getting a VX revolution or Vx nano mouse(if you are looking at wireless RF mice). They are both great, guaranteed.

I don't use any mouse pad and I have no trouble.

Hmm it's starting to feel shaky again. My mousepad has a cloth top alright. The only thing I can think of is that it got a bit wet a while ago. Could this have affected it?

What is your mousepad like? Optical mice don't like shiny surfaces and this can make them jumpy.
Try using a sheet of ordinary matte paper as your mousepad.

Like I said, a cloth surface one. It's kind of got bublbes on it and "allsop" written on it.

So any ideas what kind of mouse pad to get.

well i have a logitech G5 gaming mouse and i use the Rocket Fish Gaming mouse pad...
its aluminum but i used to use a cloth pad before with my old mouse and it was just fine.
I think this may be your mouse...
have you tried on different surfaces? -
I give up on the Logitech mouse. THe other one I have seems to work pretty well but it constantly feels like it's pushing towards top left.
-
I currently use the Logetch MX Revolution which has best mouse feel for me of any mouse I have used.
The jumping problem sometimes have on cordless mice.
If you try any corded mouse this should g one get rid of the problem. You can try the some of the old Microsoft Intellimouss or the current 3000 or 5000 models. Those should get around any odd issues you are having with logitech mouse.
I used to have problems with non-Microsoft mouse that you describe when the drivers were more non-standard but not in many, many years. However one of the mice above should work fine.
Good mouse
