No one answered my thread on expresscard notebook sound cards so I'll assume there are none and start this thread instead.

Any one have a recommendation as to which external sound card to get for either an Inspiron 1520 or a Vostro 1500? Both sound cards on the notebooks aren't much so I'd like something producing decent sound when I hook up my external speakers to the laptop.

The Creative X-Fi is a good option.

Which X-Fi? There are quite a few models on Creative's website.

Notebook onboard sound cards are generally rubbish and I like plugging in my speakers. With a decent notebook sound card (expresscard format, yay!) I'll enjoy my music and games more with my speakers and new laptop.
