***Note, I now mean under $50, just realized my funds on paypal are lacking lol
I'm thinking about buying a gaming mouse, but dont wanna pay more than 60 bucks. Basically my current choices are the Razer Deathadder, Razer Abyssus, Cyborg Rat3, or Logitech G400. I plan to use this mouse to primarily play RTS, specifically SC2 (might use it to play some fps like BF3 though)
Any suggestions on which mouse on the list to buy or suggestions for mice i didn't list? I heard the Logitech mice are really nice but the ones in my price range don't look good at all to me. (Aesthetics is a selling point isn't it?). If the mouse also has a nice sale from a credible retailer for the US, that'd be preferable as well
Thanks
Oh and, I tend to use a fingertip grip, and I have average sized hands

MX518 tried and true and cheap compared to other high profile mice.
Problem is since they don't seem to make them anymore instead of $30 - $40 its like $60+ for places that have stock.
I hear the G5 is not really as good as its older brother. -
Are you in a rush to buy? I've noticed mice and keyboards are always on sale every few months. I have a spare G700 and wireless keyboard both at 50% off still in box. Bought from Amazon (G700) and Logitech directly. There is also the dented box items which are normally new from Logitech as well. If not in a rush, you can pick up most within your price range...I'm using a G9x for 29.99 after rebate.
Stock up I think when they go on sale and you should be covered for a while. -
listen to joecait. i picked up my G500 for like $30 bucks, and G700's go on sale for around $60-70 all the time. u did say u use the claw grip though, so i'm not sure how well the logitechs will work for u. the deathadder is usually around $35-$40 if u look hard enough.
check out www.slickdeals.net
P.S. - joecait, wanna sell me your G700 if it's brand new? -
Also would a deathadder work for me if I have a very light palm grip? -
G9x is still my favorite
-
it looks like the last time the G9x dipped into the $50~ range was around christmas time. i'm sure a coupon or dented box special should be popping up soon. -
-
The DeathAdder is the perfect palm grip mouse. Definitely one of the best mice you can get, and its optical sensor is superior in quality to the lasers found in mice twice as expensive.
-
Logitech G9X for sure
Very precise and the lightest mouse I've ever used, which it makes it excellent for the RTS genre. -
I'm not really looking to sell since I have to replace my mouse every few years. I actually just bought the G700 last Nov so a few months back. I think there are more sales around the holidays so that's a good time to pick up at least one spare. I was actually hoping to use the G700 downstairs, but doubt the range will go that far (anyone know the range of these wireless mice and keyboards?) -
u know what? i'm not sure how i forgot to suggest this to u. head out to a best buy, or your local computer store, and physically check out the mice yourself. get a personal feel for how each mice fits your hand and then u can always come home and order online for cheaper. it's really hard to recommend a specific mouse to someone that's kind of "in between" grips.
if what jrwingate6 said is true then the G500 wouldn't be a bad choice either. it's definitely a steal at it's $30-$35 sale price.
@joecait: i was jk'in about the G700.i'm actually waiting for guildwars 2 to come out so i can give myself a reason to upgrade my G500 to a G700.
this mouse really took my PvP skills to a whole new level, so i'm stoked to see what the G700 can do for me.

@Houstoned
You know the difference between the G500 and the G700 is just that the G700 is wireless? They have the same sensor, the same design and the same button layout, and in fact the G500 has weight adjust ability while the the G700 doesn't.
If you could explain to me why the G700 going to make you better than you are with the G500, that would be much appreciated. -
trust me, i love my G500. it's probably the best mouse i've owned yet. the extra buttons on the G700 will just help me even further in games and my everyday tasks. -
Wireless is a huge factor in whether or not people buy mice, especially since most of the people here own notebooks. Portability is kind of a must. I own the g9x and g700, I bring my g700 everywhere because all I need to do is put in the little dongle and I'm good to go

i have been using the g700 for a few months and go in between grips but i mostly play mmos. I would recommend the mouse to anyone looking to make a new purchase/upgrade.

Corsair Vengeance M90 if you can find a deal on one.

Broke down my choices to basically the Deathadder or G9x. I really like the G9x, but the price is so much more than the DA ($68ish vs $47). Not sure if its worth it
Is the deathadder known to have problems after long term usage? (I know razer quality is known to be crap but the DA is apparantly very well made) and is the G9x more reliable? I guess reliability is what'll make me choose between ~$15 more for cool customization or a shiny piece of plastic.
Can't really wait for deals much longer: my cheap mouses rubber sidegrips are falling apart due to the cheap glue fading off -

I would still pop for the G9x as Logitech's warranty coverage is superior. As long as you hold on to the receipt, should anything happen during the warranty period, Logitech will replace it no questions asked.
-
To give you an idea of how incredible their warranty coverage is, my G9X wire was starting to wear, I called them up and in less than 10 minutes I got approved for a brand new replacement. They even gave me a free upgrade to the G700 and sent it UPS-2days. Incredible service. -

I desperately wish Logitech's gaming mice supported OS X. That's the only thing Razer has going for it, IMO (their full-featured OS X software is surprisingly good).

Scratch my last comment, just took houstoned's advice and went to my local best buy to check out the mouses and found that I just can't do my prefered grip with the deathadder. I really liked the feel of the G500 though
Unfortunately my bestbuy didn't have the G9x so not sure if I'm going with the G500(roughly same price as the DA on amazon) or that. Not sure if g500 is a good RTS mouse though, anyone have insight on this -
As long as it has enough buttons and is comfortable, any mouse can be a "good RTS mouse".

g500/700 is a great choice.
-
If only Logitech made a good mouse for lefties...*sigh*
-
-
Razer also has a left-handed DeathAdder. I've been in love with the right-handed version for years.
-
Thanks guys...Houstoned...many reviews i have read on the G300 leave me to think it is a poorly constructed mouse. Do you have any experience with it? Would love to hear some feedback from a NBR'er.
Matershroom... same goes for the lefty DA, it would be nice to get a true lefty mouse. Been living with the "neutral" mice forever. -
I want to use this same post to aks the same question. I'm between the razer Deathadder/Tron and logitech G400/G500/G9x. Also check the cyborg r.a.t 3, but is a bit odd. I want to spend the less possible and durability over everything
I will use it mainly for MP FPS games: L4D2, BFBC2, KF and so on.... Of course I will use it for all my other games, but those games are the ones demanding me a better mouse (right now I'm using an 8$ mouse). I never used a "gaming mouse", so, I don't know much about it, I only know I'm using the max sensitivity and is still a bit "slow" to me on those games.
My hands are a bit small, in case that counts. As I stated, I don't want to spend too much on something I will not use it at 100%... I only play about an hour per day. -
-
Go with the G400, you might need that on-the-fly sensitivity switching.
-
Thanks for the quick answer!. The main differences I can see between the G400 and G500 is that the G500 is laser, have a weight control and memory.
I really don't care about weight control, because I like lightweight mouses (until now at least).
About the tech, I don't know If I'll be able to tell the difference, but it seems opticals are more suitable for most surfaces, and I usually don't use pads (don't know why, I just get used to it), so, optical wins.
At last, memory. I don't know If I'll be using that feature.
So, now it comes to last 2 factors: Durability and ergonomics, and both G400 and Deathadder seems good on those fields. Some say new Razers are a bit cheap on durability, that they lowered their quality, don't know if this apply to Deathadder. -
I have a 2007 DeathAdder (original 1,800 DPI model) and 2009 (3,500 DPI) that both look and perform as well as the day I got 'em. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I have a lot of Razer stuff, and I've had one product fail; the microphone on a Carcharias headset that they replaced for me and has been working ever since.
Any manufacturer can have lemons. Razer, Logitech, Microsoft, etc. are no exceptions. That's what warranty is for. -
I use a g500 I got from my brother at Xmas 2010th for everything an it is flawless with my steelseries mousepad. Sc2 Bf3 guild wars and any other game I throw at it. No complaints at all. Had an mx518 before that I loved too. Logitech has definitely got me as a customer for now.

Any thoughts on Kinzu v2, Kana, or SS Xai? I know the Kinzu v1 has a multitude of problems and if like 2 years old. The Kinzu v2s probably not worth the $40 but if I find it on sale, I might look at it. I don't like the G400's look and the Abyssus looks too much like a cheap piece of plastic.
I probably will go with either a Logitech G9x, Xai, Kana, or Kinzu v2, probably will wait for a sale though and continue using this cheap dynex optical mouse. Anyone know a good mousepad for RTS? (I'm talking about stuff like the QcK and the Goliathus price range?
EDIT: I did a quick search on craigslist and found someone selling a Razer Imperator for an okay price in the same exact town I live in. Any thoughts on this? -
If you want a non-ambidextrous Razer mouse, get the DeathAdder. It's cheaper than the Imperator, yet it has a superior quality optical sensor.
Good under $60 gaming mouse for RTS?
