Didn't know where to post this but...

so i have an old westinghouse HDTV in my room. It has DVI and VGA inputs. If I bought the DVI or VGA cable and connected my Laptop to the TV and played an HD video, would the TV play the video in HD? Would I lose quality?

    Depends on the video.

If you were playing a blueray disk or something you would have to use DVI and it has to be HDCP compliant.

If you just had a HD video on your computer you can use VGA or DVI.

Both of them can support HD resolution, but somethings like HD DVD's and Blueray disk have that protection that wont let them play in HD unless both the device playing it and the monitor its connected too are HDCP signed.

VGA = analog, could be affected by bad connection/(other crap)

DVI/HDMI = digital... for most purposes of chatting, either the data's there or not(0s and 1s)... [there are other ways for digital connections to drop signal/poor quality, but i dont think we'll run into that here]

technically if you compare them in clean environments, they should be the same/similar, but i'd go for the digital option
