Hey all! I'm tinkering around with an Alienware m17x R1 right now. I may just turn it in to an R2 with a mobo and CPU swap. That said, I'm trying to figure out what to do with the express card slot. Right now it is 2x USB 3.0 slots, which is pretty cool to add to an old laptop.

However, I want to add HDMI In.

    I found this product: https://www.startech.com/support/ECHDCAP
However, I can't find it in stock anywhere. Reviews are all over the place, but it seems like a good product. It is 34mm, so I would have to buy a 54mm stabilizer (under $10).

Does anyone know where to get one OR an alternative product?

My other idea was to simply use a USB capture card with the USB 3.0 express card, at least then it would work on other devices too. I'm not sure what the input lag would be on that. I read that the StarTech express card is fast enough to plug game consoles into, which would look real nice on the RGBLED screen. Then again, I have a 13 R3 OLED, which would look great as well if USB CC have good response time.

I have an analog video/atsc tuner in mine. works great for old consoles like nes/snes/n64/genesis/gamecube/wii. Be aware you cannot capture HDCP encoded signals with that device you linked. PS3/360/PS4/XB1 signals are HDCP encrypted and cannot be captured with what you listed (though there are exceptions)

this one is even more sketchy, but available:
