A cable that actually meets the specification will operate at the specification the same as any other cable. Its a digital signal, as long as it gets to its destination in a timely manner the signal is a 100% perfect copy of the original. This is different then the easily interfered with analog of days gone by where interference would degrade video and sound quality and where crap cables made this worse.

That is not to say that there are not crap cables on the market, there most likley are. But a test of cheap cables from monoprice versus monster's in monster's own facility proved no operational difference.

Even though the 1.3 specification is a little beyond what is needed for 1080p I would look for a cable that is stated to work at that or whatever the latest common spec is. I payed 20 bucks for my 6 footer and that was probably over paying compared to some stuff.

2 bad reviews and several good ones on that, might be a little wary of it but if your not using it for playing protected content then you wont have the issue 4 start number 2 has - i might buy this? - Eh any of the names i see for cables on neweggs had an occasional dud i lost the link but unless you get one that shouldnt have passed QC you should be fine.

You should be fine. There are some people that say differently, but as long as it is built with close enough tolerances, any cable carrying digitial signals should be pretty much equal to others of the same type. Digital signals are much less suceptable to degredation than analog, so the "quality" of the cable matters less with something like HDMI as compared to something like composite video.

A much better choice in cables. Blue because that's my favorite color but they have them in other colors too. I own several and they're great cables. The build quality rivals, if not beats monster cable and the connections are very tight. The outer covering is very sturdy but flexible enough to not stress the HDMI ports on your components. You just missed a sale, they had them for $1.96 each. Monoprice is a great place for all types of cables and their customer service is top notch as well. I don't even look anywhere else when I need a cable or something else they sell.

u should be fine with any brand HDMI cable. as long as they are 1.3a or 1.3b and the connector is gold plated, there will be no real differences.

I really wish that were true, MrButterBiscuits. I've heard some pretty stupid questions on this forum before despite the knowledge gained out of it, mind you, haha.

The questions themselves aren't stupid... they are smart in that they are asking to learn... anyway, the stupidest man on earth will never learn anything if he never asks questions

I can be pretty thickheaded at times... In fact I ask stupid questions quite a bit, but I ask questions... therefore I learn and I become smarter

Ok, how about we don't get side tracked on some off topic pissing match over something ultimately inconsequential? So, ElPulpo, made a decision on a cable to get?

No... but see you learned something.... don't ASK STUPID QUESTIONS! ;) lol \
Sorry I got sidetracked I just felt it was needed, ElPulpo sounded kind of depressed saying he was stupid... I was just reiterating that at least he did the smart thing by asking!

yeah i ended up getting that one from monoprice that was linked. except in purple ..not sure why other than the fact i've never seend a purple cable before.

i did not know if some fit my tv, others the comp or w/e so actually you guys did put my mind at ease anyway. and for 8 bucks including shipping and handling you can't beat that. i think im going to take my new cable up to best buy and dance through the computer section with it

Although some people feel the 1.3 revision of HDMI is beyond what is required, I actually needed it for 1080P from my PS3. I bought an HDMI cable from my local game store, and it worked fine on my older TV with 720P. When I got my 1080P TV however, the sound and video would cut out, especially during the starting video of GT5: Prologue.

When I got a 1.3 standard HDMI cable all the issues disappeared :)

Yeah, as said, as long as a cable meets a given spec (1.2, 1.3, etc), it should perform just about equally to any other cable of the same spec. There was a thread a while back that linked to an article explaining why, due to the way HDMI is licensed, there are only a few companies that actually manufacture HDMI cable, and most of the brands of it just rebrand stuff made by the same few companies. That's not to say the manufacturers can't use higher quality processes or materials for some clients than others, but still, they are made by the same few companies.
