I bought the Amazon Basic HDMI cable, and now when I hook my computer up to my TV, sound comes from the TV built in speakers and no sounds come out of my computer. When I plug my speakers into the TV's audio jack, sound still comes out of the TV speakers. How do I fix this?

Buy a receiver with an HDMI! Save that, switch off your TV's internal speakers

Is there anyway to fix this without buying anything else?

I guess what I'm asking is how not to have an HDMI cable transmit/transfer sound.

You could plug the speakers into the computer and and then make the computer use the speakers as the default audio out.

You can try disable digital out from your notebook.

    Easy Cheesy!

First when using HDMI most laptops default the audio to HDMI output, however you can always manually go into your windows control panel and choose to keep the default sound and not use HDMI so your laptop speakers will have the audio instead of the HDMI connection.

If you so choose at that point you can plug in headphones or external speakers into your laptops headphone jack.

If you opt to go with the HDMI sound the TV is set to play sound on its internal speakers. Somewhere in its menu there should be an option for external sound instead of internal sound.

However my TV does not have a headphone jack its a line out. So it has to go to a powered source not directly to speakers.

Not without going backward in technology and losing the advanced capability of your HDMI port. HDMI is designed to be an all-in-one port that gives you the best audio and video without clutter and complexity. It's also the most advanced video and audio your computer can output.

Therefore, if you attempt any workaround, you would be defeating that superior connectivity for an inferior one. Not to mention you'd lose the capability of surround sound.

    Simple.

If you want to use the computer speakers and not the TV speakers; in Windows, choose your audio device to output from your computer speakers and not HDMI audio. Your computer will most likely default to HDMI audio each time you startup your computer with HDMI enabled. So, you will have to manually change this each time. (I believe you can only choose one audio device in Windows at a time.)

If you want to output audio through HDMI to your speakers without audio coming out the TV speakers. Mute or turn down the volume on the TV speakers to "0" and (1) turn up the volume on your receiver (connected to the speakers) with the cable hooked up to the TV's audio jack or (2) turn up the volume on the speakers if it's directly hooked up to the TV's audio jack using the speaker's volume control. However, I have no idea on how to solve this problem if your speakers have no volume control.

You can also change the TV's audio settings to the ports/speakers you want to output audio or disable.

    Good luck.

    This is the easiest:

Windows Control Panel --> Sound --> Disable HDMI
Then plug speakers into computer output

    :)
