I have a Gateway M520 Notebook. It's about three years old now. Anyhow, the battery only gets charged when the notebook is plugged into an outlet. I'm looking to see if there is some stand-alone/external charger out there, to charge the battery itself, without having to rely on the Notebook doing it.

The battery is a Li4402A (Li-ion). If anyone can give me some info or a tip about this, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks a mil!

Firstly, I haven't seen or heard of a external laptop battery charger for a long time. And even then, they were specific to the brand of laptop.

But, what is the point? Plug the laptop into the wall for a couple of hours and you will have a charged battery. And you can even keep using the laptop while the battery charges. Or am I missing something?

Yes, there are external laptop battery chargers, but you would most likely have to make it. The simplest way is to find which leads on the battery are for discharging, and which ones are for charging. You would have to build a controller, which would fit into the battery connector, and fit it with the correct power source. This would be very tricky and confusing if you have no idea on how to solder and use breadboards and such.

Your better off just charging it in your laptop.

The only other thing, is to buy another identical motherboard, and chop off the battery adaptor, and wire a power source to it to charge your battery.
