Hi all,
I am a long time reader, first time poster and I am after some advice reguarding notebook coolers
I recently purchased a HP DV5-1139TX (T9400, 9600M GT, DDR2 4GB, 400GB) and am looking to buy a notebook cooler. I'm after advice/recommendation on which cooler to purchase. I have read the 15.4" NC1000 vs NC2000 and other threads, however there seems to be conflicting information. One thread suggested the NotePal infinite for the DV5 series
Price does not matter, but saying that, I don't want to waste money on overkill. I don't particularly like the NZXT Cryo due to its size and usb/power problems.
Your advice and time spent on this topic is greatly appreciated

it really depends on how u are using yur notebook. if u are a gamer or a person that uses graphic-intense programs. the cryo LX is gonna be the best choice.
about the power issue. it seems like the majority of people with power complaints are gateway users. even if u did run into that problem, it could be easily remedied with a cheap ($5-$10) USB hub. the cryo LX is supposed to be big. it was designed and built specifically for "gaming/power notebooks" all the way up to 19".
if u are a casual user then save yurself some money and just get a cheap cooler, or an x-stand. if u are goin to be spendin that much amount of money for a zalman or infinite cooler. then i highly suggest that u get the cryo LX for just a little more. there isn't a cooler on the market that can measure up to it. -
houstoned,
Thanks for clearing up the usb power issue concerning the NZXT. The size of the Cryo Lx was the thing most putting me off. But I live in a sub-topical area that gets hot and humid in summer, so I guess size should come a distance second to performance. I do intended to do gaming, today I just brought GTA IV. So it looks like I'm going for the Cryo LX.
The Cryo LX here in Australia goes for AUD $109 and the NotePal Infinite only AUD $39 (NC1000/2000 are $75/$93). Nearly being three times the price seems a little insane to me. But in the end, I guess you get what you pay for. -
hmmm...
i'm not 100% sure how being from Australia will effect yur purchase, but check out ebay. i got mine for about $70-$80 USD (shipped). i remember newegg.com havin the cryo LX @ $65-$70 USD. just try to take some time out and look for the cheapest price u can find. i wish u luck!
as for the size. just think of it like this. this cooler will do great against the test of time. if u do happen to upgrade to a bigger, more powerful, notebook in the future. u won't need to get another cooler. -

to be honest i just got my notepal infinite in the mail the other day and im not too impressed by it. i thought it would push way more air then it actually does. now dont get me wrong it does keep my notebook cool, i just thought it would do alot more considering how cooler master advertised it and the reviews that people gave it. maybe i got a faulty one or something but i thought it would push way more air

it's a great choice for the casual user or someone that is lookin for a cooler that draws in air from the back instead of the bottom. -
I'm still open to suggestions guys.
NC2000 or Cryo LX -
if u are lookin for a cooler to help temps under heavy use and/or gaming, then the nc2000 has a few flaws.
the nc2000 utilizes the same (2) fans that come in the nc1000. that will automatically reduce alot of air movement because of the nc2000's larger frame. the zalman unit's cooling surface is focused towards the front of the cooler. most, gaming/powerbooks will have their GPU & CPU's (and vents) located towards the rear of the laptop. some guys have gotten better results by sliding the laptop down, and off the cooler, a bit. that is kind of counterproductive cuz that cancels a few degrees of typing and viewing comfort.
again, the nc2000 would be a great choice for the casual/light user. they are supposed to be some of the most quiet coolers available.
