I have an HP ZD8230US 180W AC adapter that seems to get very warm to the touch, can someone tell me if this is normal with this power brick?

Oh yes...I used to have one. Those 180W AC adapters run really hot and it was my personal foot warmer.

Another question about the AC adapter. When plugged in it shows charging the battery by the power plug/power bolt icon that shows in the system tray. Then at times while it is still plugged in it will no longer show the power bolt over the power plug icon which I take to indicate it is running on AC power only yet the battery is on 79% charged.

I have also noticed that the AC adapter is not providing power to the laptop, it has reverted to battery power, even though the adapter is plugged in?

Is this an indication that something is wrong with the AC adapter? As I mentioned in an earlier post, the power brick seems to get very warm to the touch, is there an auto-shutoff in the event it is overheating?
