I have seen the Sandisk Firelites which appeared to be the first portable hard drives. However, there are cheaper alternatives like the Western Digital Passports (which I have 3) and Simple Tech Portable Hard Drives (I have 1).

However, after switching to the Macbook Pro, I have found that I cannot delete files from my Macbook since I formatted them in Windows NTFS (Read only). I could not figure out an alternative, except to buy a hard drive that I will format in Mac OS X.

I need a large hard drive since I am finding that my Digital HD Camcorder that writes onto an SD card (Samsung SC-HMX20C) is eating into a lot of hard drive space (8 GB Card + 8 GB Built into the camera).

I was shopping on Amazon for a Hard Drive (USB Powered) and I came across this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/Hammer-HP1100...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232298497&sr=1-1

I figured it was worth a try despite the lower price. I will post a review on Amazon, when I put it into use.

Anyways, has anyone used the "Hammer"?

Not like the Hammer Driver for Golf = P-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-w!

The hard drive is awesome. I use it for predominantly back ups. It runs warm to the touch and I don't hear it at all.

same price and get e-sata with it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822216051

I would not get any usb 2.0 only drive e-sata offers more bandwidth thus more speed. A 2.5" drive may not really break the 2.0 spec bandwidth easily but 3.5" drives easily can. I have seen 2.5" 500gb drives hit about 70mb/s and USB will hold you back to the 40's. Also nothing wrong with getting a nice 500gb drive on its own and then using an enclosure. Longer warranty this way and you know exactly what drive is inside.
