I am a frequent air traveler, and I bring my Asus notebook along in my carry-on baggage. Unfortunately, I recently noticed a blotchy white mark around the centre of my screen whenever it displays solid black/grey. Closing the notebook, the blemish appears to line-up with the bottom edge of the keyboard. Accordingly, I'm guessing that it was caused by these two areas being pressed against each other. I used to leave a protective acetate sheet on my screen to try to prevent this very thing from happening (I've seen a lot of PowerBook users with keyboard marks on their screens). I should note that the screen surface is still smooth with no noticeable dent or crease.
I'm planning on getting a new notebook (an ultra portable) within the next few months, and I don't want this to happen again. I think the problem may be that my carry-on briefcase is typically jam-packed and it often ends up being shoved into a relatively tight compartment. This in turn puts a lot of pressure onto the notebook causing the screen to flex right into the keyboard.
With my intended application in mind, anyone know of a hard sleeve/case that will not flex and put any pressure onto the notebook it's protecting? Any other solutions?
Thanks!

The are some full-metal bags, but they are heavy. You should always put your laptop in a way that the screen would be in less direct pressure. For example, put it on the outside.

You could try adding display cushions

I don't think the display cushions would help, they would just put the screen farther away, but they do absolutely nothing about the pressure that is already there. I am also looking for a way to prevent pressure to the screen for my notebook. Hopefully someone else knows of something.

This might do what we want - it has hard sides, but isn't a full size bag. http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/TBP/TB0390

axio-usa.com makes hard sleeves and hard backpacks.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Weight and size would definitely be an issue due to airline restrictions, not to mention the fact that I'll be lugging it around a whole lot. Regardless, I wouldn't mind checking out some metal cases. Any links?
I'm hoping to still put my sleeved/encased notebook into my briefcase. I try to put the screen facing the exterior, but sometimes that still isn't enough. The display cushion is an interesting option, and I'll have to see if it is sufficient enough to prevent the top-to-bottom contact.
I've seen the Brain Cell and other similar products, but while they appear to be good for protecting against bumps and shocks, I worry that it will still transfer pressure near the centre.
The Axio Hardsleeve looks like a good option. I'm not too wild about the aesthetics (the branding in particular), but it's not a deal breaker. My main concern is that it is designed specifically for Mac dimensions, and I was planning on getting a notebook under 13.3". -
another possibility....
