Anyone know any good hardshell cases for a 14 inch notebook? (The laptop itself is around 1-1.5" thick). I'm looking for a case that would protect my laptop if it was inside my backpack being pressed against by my books.

I found this so far, but i'm not sure if it's hard around the edges as well to prevent the laptop from feeling the pressure of being in my backpack:

    Thanks for your input.

Thanks! Those axioluggage sleeves look really nice, is there anything like that for pc's? I also like the targus raidus case you suggested too, but it looks pretty bulky.

Hard cases are bulky; and even if it fits in your backpack it's going too take all the room and weigh a ton. Why don't you just separate it from the rest of your things? I know it's two things to worry about instead of one, but at some point practicality has to circumvent convenience.

p.s. I tried putting everything in one bag and it kept getting heavier and heavier. Once my Targus XL began to tip the scale at 45+ pound, my "back" demanded I come up with a better solution.

I don't quite agree with Krane, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything particularly like the Axios in terms of PC sleeves. Mach 3 Composites is a new company doing carbon cases, which are not exactly sleeves - but sort of halfway between a case and sleeve. They seem to be sold out however.

This was actually part of the reason I went custom on a lightweight rigid sleeve that I'm starting to occasionally use since I found that my newer soft bag doesn't afford enough protection for a laptop. I also have a "sleevelette" for parts - batteries, cables, etc.

The only things I can suggest are either:
    - getting a bag specifically for the machine or putting up with the bulk of a hard sleeve (Matias also do - once again, primarily for the Mac but this time not so form-specific - aluminium shoulder-strapped cases)
    - going for the Bihn Brain Cell
    - trust your bag + soft sleeve
    - or going the custom route - but I doubt you'd want to go specifically my custom route, as I don't think you'd be able to (or want to) afford it.
