If your not looking for anything fancy, you can pick up a pair of Altec Lancing for under $30 and you should be fine. I use them for music and dvds and the sound quality is pretty clear. The 9300s speakers are so low it's hard to watch a movie without them. It won't give you the quality of a home stereo or anything but for the price i was happy with mine. Besides most people have a stereo in the living room for that. Just stay far away from anything GE. I made the mistake of buying some from Target and took them back latter that day.

The Logitech x-530 seems to be the best bang for the buck right now.

I picked up those, a 5.1 surround system for about $55 Canadian. However, it will need a sound card for my laptop to take advantage of the 5.1, so...

I'm not sure about the 9300, does it have the SPDIF output?

SPDIF is a optical out input.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S/PDIF

Hmm it seems the 9300 doesnt have it.

Well, you can always buy 2.1 sound because those are guaranteed to work with any computer...

A good investment is the Creative Audigy ZS 2, but its too expensive for me right now heh..

I'd go for Logitech in Best Bang for the Buck, but I also like JBL speakers.

If you want the best quality 2.1 speakers for a laptop go with the Klipsh Pro-Audio 2.1 system, I had these for years with my desktop before I got a chance to liberate a set of 5.1 ultras from someone and currently have them hooked up to my TV to replace the tinny built in speaker. Simply put they are the best 2.1 speakers I have ever heard, unfortunately they come with a price tag to match. I have heard good things about the logitech systems, and had one a few years ago that was pretty nice.

I have a pair set of Logitech Z-5500's that sound amazing, so good infact that I got a set of moderately priced X-530's for my friend as a gift and they sound pretty great at fraction of the cost of my 5500's.

Logitech's Z-series are amazing, but cost a bloody lot!

The x-series is just like the Z series but alot more affordable but is almost halved in watts

you can pick up a good pair of Logitech Z3's for $50USD (+shipping +tax)
same for the JBL Creature 2's. Those are the ones i'm torn between right now. Just can't seem to make up my mind.

Logitech Z-2300's - most awesome pc sound system! Aye, a little bit on the expensive side, although 100USD isn't too bad.
