We sit for so long with our computers and I hear all kinds of computer devices but never chairs.
I'm looking for a computer chair that is comfortable, has arms, and not going to fall apart after a year. I'm not looking to spend a fortune but I feel that I can get a good quality chair that is not hundreds of dollars.
Anyone have any recommendations? Even a brand would be a great place to start?
    Thanks.

This would be an awesome idea.

Personally I have a huge black leather chair that is super comfy and sits at the right angle for me at the desk.

I had been thinking the same thing as I've been forced to sit on my girlfriend's crappy old office-type chair (tilted seat and wobbly wheels) while gaming (my current Thinkpad hasn't got great graphic capabilities but her desktop does). I was looking for something ultra comfy and the right height for my desk. And affordable...

I actually think there was a chair thread in OT not too long ago... I have a chair I love (leather, massage features) that I got for $80 on sale about two years ago. No idea what brand name. I'm not even sure what store I bought it at anymore... wasn't someplace I usually go. A good chair is extremely important if you spend lot's of time at your computer.

I wish I had an actual La-Z-Boy chair - one with the computer features. That would be so nice!

Yeah, I got a LA-Z-BOY black leather chair from a college kid who was transfering schools and couldn't bring it with him. He paid over $500 for it and I got it for $100 and it's only a year old!! its an amazing comfy chair.

Chairs are so personal though. What makes a chair perfect for me might be completely unacceptable for you. I have found that the mfg really can matter, because like laptops build quality is EVERYTHING in a chair.

It might be interesting to know how many folks actually use their laptop at a desk longer then in other places. I am in my La-z-boy and big chair-and-a-half far more then in my desk chair anymore. Or I am out on my deck in a comfy lounger watching our hummy birds float around the feeders.

Best way I found to get a good chair is know what I want feature wise then visit as many stores as I can trying them out. I know I like a full high back with a head rest for when I wanna recline way back to rest my legs. Arms are a must have as is cloth covering not leather...sweat factor there, but leather feels the best by far...the seat needs to help with leg support. Too shallow and you end up with strain on your hips and knees. Last a very good pneumatic adjust for height and even seat tilt.

Actually Costco has been the source of my last two desk chairs. I found good prices and better build quality then either Office Depot or Staples. But I have been considering a new chair from Staples the past few months. not sure of the brand but I really like it...only about $150 too...

No matter I would never buy a chair without having sat in the same model somewhere.

Those look like the chairs in the meeting rooms downstairs in my dorm. At first look the mesh type chair looks weird but it's actually really comfortable cause the thing stretches...feels like you're sitting on a trampoline lol.e

I had great luck finding a local office supply/chair store and having them custom build a chair for me. I ended up with one of these:

    http://www.rfmseating.com/

I think I got a Monterey. Some of the options I got were memory foam seat, inflatable air bladder in the back rest, height and 360 degree vertical adjusting arm rests, and leather (of course). You can choose the seat size and shape, back rest size and shape, tilt mechanism, arm rest style etc. It is by far the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in. Not cheap though.

Our entire building (few dozen offices and a call center with 150+ cubes) has these chairs. When you have a job that involves sitting for 8-10 hours a day, a good chair is a blessing. When I first started it was nice to see that our comfort and health was important.

Look around town for a office furniture clearance house. I have gotten $1000+ office desk for under $500 and good $600 Steelcase chair for under $200. Herman Millers are great but they are still $400 used.

I have a fairly high end, somewhat ergonomic, stuffed office chair with adjustable everything (+ a set of wheels). Everyone who uses it finds it comfortable.
