Hello all. I have just decided to buy the sager 5797 and now I am looking for the two only other peices that I need, headset and a mouse. There seem to be endless possibilities our there and it is a little overwhelming.
I would like to be able to get both for under $200. I will be doing mostly gaming. I will be moving around a lot and would like to limit the amount of stuff I have to carry/deal with. I would like a headset that is surround sound capable with a mic. I prefer the mouse to be wired. Thank you for your time.

Go to a local electronic store and try them out for yourself. Wired headsets and mouses are abundant at good prices. But do try them out for feel.
cheers ... -
Look at:
mouse: SteeleSeries Ikari Laser
headphones: SteelSeries 5Hv2 USB
I have them, I love them -
Mouse: Logitech G9 or MX518, Microsoft Sidewinder.
Headset: Logitech G35 or Plantronics Gamecom 377. Surround sound in headsets is very overrated, though. -
For the headset, try checking out the Razer Piranha.
-
logitech g9 mouse. and logitech g35 headset.
or wait for the razer megalodon headset. -
So far I am real interested in the g35 headeset. As for mice, the G9 is a little to pricey for me. So im considering both the G5 and MX518. Could anyone talk about the differnces between the two?
-
They're virtually identical. The main difference is that the MX518 is optical and the G5 is laser. Other than that, they have the same shape, button layout, etc.
-
Is there any performance differences between laser and optical?
-
It depends on who you're talking to. I prefer laser (my G9 really has spoiled me
), but there are also people who think optical is superior, despite being an older technology.
-
What are some of the reasons for you likeing your G9 so much?
-
It's Logitech's best gaming-oriented mouse. Its laser engine goes up to a pretty impressive 3,200 DPI (it's actually 5,000 now on the new G9X), it has 5 buttons (left click, right click, scroll wheel, two thumb buttons), which is an absolute necessity for me. You can adjust the DPI on the fly with a little screen on the mouse itself. The scroll wheel itself is great; it's got hyperscrolling mode and a traditional notched scrolling mode.
Also, it has three interchangeable grips for varying levels of comfort and precision, and adjustable weights so you can have its momentum as light or heavy as you want.
Even when I'm not gaming, with the super-comfortable wide load grip, it's a very comfortable and precise mouse. -
-
Wide-load grip:
Precision grip:
ID grip (purchased separately, larger and longer than Wide-load):
I suppose you could count two since the mouse package only includes the first two, but I bought the ID grip for mine as well. -
Mouse: SIdewinder, G9 or Mamba
Headset: G35 or Razer Megaladon. -
sidewinder G8 seems to be one of the top mouse right now with 5000+ dpi and bluetrack
mamba is also nice -
Im pretty set on the G35. It looks like a great headset. I am still up in the air about mice. I have been reading reviews on both the G5 and mx518 and they both seem to have some problems. The side grips on the MX518 seems to wear off in a relativly short time and the cord on the G5 seems to have some problems. Can owners of either conforim or deny this complaints?
-
I've got a Microsoft Sidewinder and it's brilliant
A nice wide mouse that fits well in the hand, 2 great thumb buttons, an screen, great scroll wheel, on the fly macro record and dpi adjustments. Also it has different interchangeable weights and best of all, it has interchangeable traction feet depending whether you want a fast or slow moving mouse
It's amazing and I rate it highly -
-
Agreed. The Sidewinder was my 2nd place choice for a mouse, beaten only by my G9. The one thing I didn't like was the vertical placement of the thumb buttons. It's makes things awkward with my sausage-fingers.
-
For the life of me I can not figure out what that wrinkle lookin thing is on the butt of the mx518.....
-
Does anyone know what it is?
-
That's decorational.
The MX518 is designed to look like it's covered in metal that has been badly dented, bent, or wrinkled. The mouse itself is smooth, though; it's just a skin. -
Thanks I could not tell what it was or why noone was commenting on it.
-
the texture looked too ugly people who bought them never dare to look at them and people who didn't buy them unconsciously filter their presence
-
There are apparently other, less destroyed-looking skins of the MX518, though I don't know where you buy these:
Perhaps you could remove the skin from the G5, since it's physically identical on the outside, and retrofit it onto an MX518? -
well, IMO the mamba, which i now own is really good. To me, its the best gaming mouse ever, of course due to ergonomics but it also costs 130usd
. I think the next best mouse is the Roccat KONE, a really cool WIRED gaming mouse. Then the Deathadder, because i simply love the mamba ergonomics, then Logitech G5 2007 version, the one with two side buttons. But seriously, if mamba is outta your budget, then get Deathadder, mamba's wired friend.
The headset that i would recommend is the Razer Carcharias (spelling??). It costs 80usd, and i think that + mamba would be a killer combo. Or the Razer Megladon + Razer Deathadder. Either combos would be good. IMO, for YOU, the Megladon + Deathadder is the best, since the Megladon is THE BEST gaming headset out right now. At least i think so...
