I own a pair of Super.fi 5 Pros for regular on the go listening and love them, but I have too many problems when I try to use them while exercizing (sweat makes them feel nasty in my ears and constantly lose seal/slip out, and the sensitivity of the diaphrams in the buds makes it so that cable noise and footfalls become deafening when running). I had some Sony sport buds that had solid over the ear hangars before they UEs, but I'm not sure that something of that quality would be ok with me now that I've gotten used to the UEs. I know I'll have to make some sacrafices in sound quality to account for price and sport-freindliness, but I'd like as little as possible.
I listen to more obscure forms of metal and classical music mostly, along with NPR (talk radio), so something that has good fidelity to let voices and musical nuance come through is important to me. Nice bass would be good too, but clarity across the range is most important. I'm looking to spend as far under $75 as possible. Any suggestions?

I would suggest check out Amazon under ear-buds headsets for the ones under $75.
cheers ... -
Way out of of your price range, but the Sennheiser IE8 have a little "cable guide" and sit very well in my ears while walking.
(Didn't try jogging jet)
I suspect you'd need IEMs with either a memory wire or maybe you could try to get hold of those little "cable guides" from the IE8s to keep your IEM in place. -
Definitely avoid using the UE's - moisture is a surefire way to kill balanced armature drivers.
Sennheiser have sport-specific models: http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheise...mx-80?Open&path=private_headphones_sport-line
Sony have the overhead MDR-AS1000W and the neckbanded MDR-AS50G -
Any Sennheiser works great! Just choose one you can afford.

Thank you for being entirely unhelpful, qhn.
Vogelbung, the Sonys I used to have are the S2 model, I think. Broke them.
How are the OMX 90's? Amazon has them for under $50. Also looking at the PMX (behind the head) ones. I was reading the reviews, and some of the people said the over the ear models don't work so well when you wear glasses, is that true? I've had mild issues with the UEs and my glasses, but nothing that couldn't be figured out. I think I'm leaning towards the PMX 80's right now...

I have these
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-CX...ef=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1254078680&sr=8-1-fkmr0
They are waterproof.
Sound great.
Have a little bag for storage.
3 different ear adapters.
Keep in mind that these are the type that one earbud has to go behind the neck to the other side. Just in case you don't like that design. -
Thanks, but the reviews talk about them slipping out of your ears easily, especially when running. I really think I want to stick with something that has some physical means of keeping them in your ears, like hangers or the behind the neck piece.
Honestly, I'd go with the PMX80's, except I'm a little hesitant about the behind the neck part. I'm not sure I'd find that comfortable, and I've already used hanger and in ear phones and been ok with them. So basically, it comes down to conflict with my glasses vs comfort of the bar on my neck. Does anyone have any input on either issue? -
Well the "cables guides" on the IE8 are compatible with my glasses - no problems at all.
-
Yeah, the cable wires in my UEs are fine with my glasses as well. However, it seems like the hangers on most sports models are less adjustable than those, so it becomes more of a concern to me.
-
I think all you need to look out for are reasonably thin "hangers".

Being an audiophile and using the best of everything that I can afford (usually Senn's) for under $75 check out Creative's Aurvana IEM's. They are excellent unamped. They in my opinion spank Senn's IEM's and even the Shure SE 110.
I got them on a steal at Circuit City for $50 but usually they are $75 to $100. Etymotic Research also has some nicer lower end IEM's. -
you should also ask this there: http://www.head-fi.org/forums

You've condemned the poor guy's wallet. >:c
-
I went over there, but yeah, it seems like no one is very interested in talking about anything less than $100 or with any parameters other than how good it sounds in play.
-
i still use the creative ep-630, also rebranded as the sennheiser cx300 model. they don't sound great but it's really not bad paired with a sansa clip. i don't know how much i can critically listen bouncing up and down on an elliptical or treadmill. they're small, don't fall out, light and way cheap on fleabay so you wouldn't care if they break.
-
I've not used the Senn sports models - all I can say is that I've recommended them to others and they say it works great. I can vouch for the Sony's as having acceptable sound and staying on as advertised. Glasses - I can't help you much, but the headbanded Sony's would seem to be the least intrusive in that respect.
RE: Head-fi, it's safe to say that the vast majority of members are probably more into sitting down and listening to music, while the 'my Cowon is better than your iPod' kiddies aren't yet old enough to *need* exercise
To anyone else recommending balanced armatures - like the Aurvanas - I'll reiterate that sweat ingress is one of the easiest ways to kill the drivers, much more so than dynamic drivers. -
Oh trust me, I *need* exercise.
-
I think I'm going to go with the MX85. The reviews on Amazon seem to say they are the best at staying in your ears. Argh, I'm just worried about crappy sound.
-
Unless they have donkey ears, or using the smallest of the attachments, this is entirely false.
Headphones (Pref IEMs or buds) <$75 for exercizing
