Ok, I'm looking for a decent set of headphones for listening to music while at my desk and at school during breaks, for courtesy and mainly because the sound just sucks out of these speakers - but hey, it's a lappy. I've got some old Sony earbuds that I had back when I was the coolest kid in school with my Aiwa tape player and the Beavis and Butthead Experience on full blast, but they aren't really cutting it.

Anyway, I was really drooling over a set of Grado SR60s, but they're an open system (or whatever the proper term is,) to my understanding. This probably wouldn't be so good at school, particularly if I'm going to the laptop lab or something in the library. So, what are my options as far as closed phones are concerned? I'm preferring something around the $70USD price point.

Take a look at the Philips HN100 Noise cancelling Headphones, they are quite nice and the sound is good. They retail for $70, but you can buy them online for around $40, and if your lucky like I was, you can grab them on ebay for $25 shipped.

I'm not too concerned with cancelling my perception of the outside world, but I understand that some headphones emit more noise to the outside world than others. I'm just trying to keep myself from being that jerkoff who is distracting other people that are studying with noisy headphones.

Sounds like your best solution would be some IEMs like the Shure E2c. Keep in mind however, that you must insert these into your ear canals.
