I'm looking for some quality headphones so I can bike while listening to DnB, but not be totally separated from the world (I need to be aware of cars :p). I might also use these headphones to listen to music and such on my laptop during school, so if they leak really badly then I don't think I can use them (i'll get embarrassed :c).
I guess I can use earbuds, but they are uncomfortable to me, as I prefer over the ear headphones and such.
Budget is like 70$ish, I'll see what's available because my dad doesn't like to spend a lot of money on small things like headphones because they usually break after a year. The place where I bought my last pair of earbuds went out of business, so the warranty is worthless!

A comfortable pair of earbuds and just wear one is my personal recommendation.

Lets you hear whats going on but still hear music, not heavy, wont block wind from keeping your head cool, less prone to sweat issues.

If you do not like earbuds because how they go into your ear, look for earphones like the Yuin PK3's, since they wont block sound you may even be able to wear both at the same time and still have good awareness of what is around as long as you keep the volume low enough.

Viking to the rescue! Ah, then maybe I should just stick with the ear buds I have now. Whats the difference between earphones and earbuds? :0 I'm not serious on the headphones so I wouldn't really know.
Oh and not to mention I'm a major basshead (I love dubstep :D), so do these have nice bass?

Yes the Yuins are known to have good bass, atleast I know the PK1's do but you need an amp for those and they are expensive.

PK2's are in the middle, and PK3 are like good high quality regular joe stuff and would be suitable for using on the go with a laptop or phone or what ever and not having to worry about breaking/losing them.

Earbuds go in your ear canal, Earphones just sit in your ear so they do not block out all sound and are more comfortable to a lot of people.

Terms are used loosley but that is how I use them.

I plan to get some PK2's for my phone or PK1's for my laptop.

I have a 2nd pair of Triple.Fi 10's that I need to sell that I had planned to get put in custom fabricated casing that will probably become Yuins :D

Careful. Earbuds and headphones that don't isolate much lead to you turning up the volume which leads to you becoming deaf.

    Um... No

Self Control is key, also he wants to hear cars around him because becoming dead is slightly worse than becoming deaf.

Also SPL plays a big part of how much damage can be done to the eardrums and other parts of the ear, a sealed connection between the driver and your ear like IEM's has is capable of producing a lot more SPL at lower volume than non isolated drivers. IEM's do not actually move much air so the SPL is not a big concern but its still important factual information you did not take into account.

Most of the time any hearing damage is measured in DB not SPL because they do not take this into consideration that you have a sealed connection to the ear.

Just make any kind of diaframe like a old toilet paper tube and put a balloon over it and tap on the balloon near your ear. Then push it against your ear and do it again. Same DB produced both times but the SPL is significantly higher when its sealed and much more capable of causing damage.

Some people have tinnitus issues with IEM's as well.

Honestly your thinking of it backwards from how it is. Your ears and mind adjust to volume over time. If you crank up the IEM's to a comfortable level in a while it will sound quiet again and you may want to turn it up thinking it just is a quiet song or something. Because you have no external noise to compare the volume against your completely in the dark as to how loud the music actually is.

With external noise based on the normal ambient noise around you, you can judge how loud you should be listening and not turn it up to a dangerous level.

I'm not sure where you are coming up with this. Because in a quiet environment I crank the volume way down because it sounds louder, while in a noisy environment I crank it up a lot to hear it as clearly as I can in a quiet environment. You are right that you compare it to the ambient noise, so the lower the ambient the lower you will play it, but saying that you will play it louder without ambient noise because you can't tell how loud it is is just silly and goes completely against my experiences since I bought my first walkman or driven my first car. Louder ambient = louder volume. I used to listen to music out on the street and my ears would hurt after a while because I would have to turn the music up so high to hear the details.

There is no safe way to wear headphones on a bike. Even if they still allow you to hear cars they'll change the geometry of your auditory sensation area which in turn will make you miscalculate speed and distance of the cars.

That means you had no self control :D

I listen to my music at a set level when I can hear everything else because I need to hear other things as well. It keeps my ears "tuned"

With my earbuds I find myself turning them up little by little over the course of time because I lose that check and before I know it I am blasting them louder than my headphones and can listen to them like mini speakers.

There is a situation for both, like when you want 100% isolation for study or maybe a buss ride. But biking is not a time for that at all, nor is walking, or doing anything that does not have you safe and in one spot.

But if you can hear what is going on around you, that means the music is coming in very muddled and unclear. So it's almost like what is the point. Listening to music on a bike is very unsafe.
