So after spending some time doing some research I decided to come here and ask for a little help. I'm buying a NP8662 which should arrive by Monday (thanks XoticPC!!!) and I leave in a little over a week for some traveling and need a very specific set of headphones. This is what I'm looking for:

    1) Noise canceling headphones (ie fit over the ear)
    2) Look stylish (not to big, sorta like the Bose you see in BB and Target)
    3) Comfortable for long gaming sessions (I have glasses so please take that into account)
    4) Short cord (nothing more then 4 feet, makes no sense to have such a long cord on a device that sits a foot away)
    5) Under $100

The laptop comes with a mic in palm rest so no need for a gaming headset. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I know there has got to be a market for what I'm looking for. Thanks!!

I throw an interesting choice at you.

    Plantronics 590E - http://www.futurepowerpc.com/scripts/product.asp?PRDCODE=PULSAR_590E&REFID=FR

Normally I would recommend some good headphones like Audio Technica, Sennheisser, Etc but the problem here is most of them are over $100 and most of them are big and all of them have long cords.

This is the nature of "audiophile" headphones.

Let me explain what the 590E is and why its good for you.

1.) Its very comfortable, its not an over the ear fit its an on the ear fit, making it not too big, but it doesn't squeeze hard and works with glasses. So if fits 2 of your requirements there.

2.) Its under $100 by a good amount, meeting the next requirement

3.) The cord is.... none exsistant :D these are bluetooth headphones so you can enjoy the freedom of wireless and walk away from your laptop and listen to music, or sit back and watch a movie and not have somebody trip over your cord. But here is the even better part. You CAN use a cord with these if you want, they have a 1/8" standard headphone jack so they can be used for flight, in this mode they use normal connection and not bluetooth. The cord that it comes with its like 3 or 4ft but you can easily get a cable for the length you want for a few dollars. So it meets your cable requirement.

4.) They dont look bad at all, and sound great.

Its just a bonus that they are wireless, fold able for easy storage and portability and come with a carrying case.

They are a laptops best friend.

for a bit more you can get the ones I have the 590A, its the same headphone but it comes with the desktop charging dock, flight cable, carring case and the bluetooth adapter so that you can use them wireless for any device with a headphone jack and not just bluetooth devices.

I think the 590E is just the headphones and the AC charging adapter. Though it should come with the carrying case I would think.

I would recommend the Sennheiser HD555
They are the best headphones in that price range, $93 at amazon.com with free shipping. They do not have a mic, but you can buy a zalman clip on mic for $12 from amazon.com as well. One big con, the cord is long, very long... :D

However those are really the best ones I can recommend for gaming and comfort.

Like I said in my first line, normally I would recommend similar but the OP said "not big" "under $100", "no long cord" that eliminates most everything that is a true audiophile headphone.

The 590's are more designed for on the go and laptop use and meets every requirement he asked for. Also since I own both the 590's and the AT A700's that are supposed to be above the Sen HD555's I can say the sound quality on them is great.

I enjoy listening on them just as much as m 2x more expensive A700's and for going out for sure they are what I would take with me, I cant even fit the A700's in my bag and wouldnt want them damaged.

Great idea Vicious, I'm seriously looking into them. I didn't even consider a wireless set because I keep hearing about crappy sounds however this does seem to fit my needs. To give you guys a little perspective I'm going to using them for a little air travel but mostly for when I move to DC to go to school. Class is at night and most of my days will be spent either in libraries or coffee shops studying and relaxing (IE gaming) but I need a pair that are "get up and go". Meaning that if I get a call to go somewhere (will be on call for a job) that I can go pretty fast without having to worry about some rediculously long cord that will get tangeld in everything. The stylish part is so I don't look like a 12 year old gamer. I also find the over the ears, pleather cans to be much more comfortable because they don't squeeze my ears which have metal behind them because of the glasses.

Also, if I'm out in a library does is that blue light going to be distracting? Curious on your opinion.

EDIT: How has your battery life been? I have no problem charging them every night but if I use them for say 5 or 6 hours will they still hold up?

Yeah, that pair seems to fit your needs perfectly, and no I don't really think anyone would complain about a blue light in a library.

This pair is definitely on my list but if the battery life (I don't know but its a possibility) isn't that good does anybody else have a wired suggestion?

NM, I totally looked over the fact that a wired is included. Gonna purchase these as soon as I figure out who has the best price. Thank you very much!!

Well ok heres the problem, these headphones have been discontinued and it looks like they've been discontinued for awhile (not the safest site that that link was to, did a little research and they don't have very good ratings). Any idea if there is a new version or an alternate?

Maybe you should check ebay, also why do you want headphones to play games? HD speakers would be better, just trying to help you preserver your hearing.

I appreciate the concern, this is more for "on the go" situations. I may use them at home but I have a very nice surround sound system set up in my home office. I WOULD normally check ebay however I need to have these in my hands in a week so that kinda rules out ebay.

Battery life, I have had them sit in my bag for 3 weeks and then taken them to work and used them for 8 hours.

Infact I dont charge them nearly as often as I should and its never died on me.

I am not sure if the headphones even need power when using the cord attached to them. I never tried it.

Dont let the fact its discontinued mean anything plantronics discontinues there stuff on a regular basis to come out with new models. That just makes it cheaper for you.

I just went and looked up my review from over 2 years ago for you - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=202596

Thats the other thing you can do is google reviews on them. With any product you find good/bad reviews alike but with these when I was looking for reviews before I got them I only found good reviews.
