I was looking for anyone with personal experience with headphones that are good for traveling. I like the type that clip on to the ear over the ones that go in your ear. I'm looking for something that won't take up a lot of space in my bag. My zx5000 takes up enough space on its own!

I realise that the two I'm about to suggest aren't clip on ear types, but I really like my Koss portapros, and sennheiser PX100's. Both fold up into a nice compact package and the sound quality is very very good.

I have a pair of Senn noise cancelling for the airplane that are remarkable. For the office I use Sony's loop over the ear "street style" headphones, which are better than average.

Amen to those Sennheiser PX-100s - fold up small as a glasses case, good sound, great price, fit comfortably. See the review on Dan's Data (www.dansdata.com)

For me I use the Sony Fontopia Earphones MDR-EX51LP. Keeps outside noise to an extreme low and fits snuggly into the ear, and takes up barely any space [ :)]

As with any speaker purchase, make sure you look at the frequency range and noise. Headphones that don't have a broad frequency range, especially at the lower frequencies, don't sound nearly as good. One of the main reasons is that sounds produce harmonics with each other, and if you are missing the full range, you have an incomplete sound.

I like one that cover your ears to stop the engine noise of the plane.

If you are doing any travelling on airplanes, I strongly recommend noise cancelling versions. Although you mention you don't like the (inner) ear buds, for size, the Sony MDR-NC11's are great. Not as good as the Bose (over the head) version, but the Bose are not nearly as compact.

At home, I use the Sony Fontopia (not inexpensive either).

I have 2 pairs that I use. For travel, I use the KOSS (I belive Portapros). They are great, because you squeeze the little foam pieces (just like the foam earplugs you use on the firing range), and put them in your ears. The advantage to this, over normal earbud earphones, is that, when they expand inside your ear, they contact the inner surface, so the bass response is far superior to any other earbud style earphones out there. Also, the fact that they expand to fill up your ear canal, makes them more superior at noise cancellation, than standard earbud models. I think when I got these, they were on sale for about 15 bucks at CompUSSR... errrr... CompUSA.
At home I have a pair of Sonys that have the cushion that covers your whole outer ear. While not the most expensive pair that Sony makes (about 38 dollars on sale at Fry's), they deliver much better sound, and are more durable than any 'Walkman style' or earbud earphones. Elite Force and Doom 3 are GREAT with these babies!

    Cheers,

    Stevo
