Recently I noticed the sound coming out of my headset is much louder than it used to be. If I turn the volume up all the way in Vista they can function almost as normal speakers when I'm not wearing them. When I have the volume set at 0 I can still hear it as well as when it's at 1. A few applications (Avast Anti-Virus and EVEMon) still play sound (and loudly) when I have the sound muted. My headset is a Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 and my computer is an ASUS G1S running Vista. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?

I recommend you go to your control panel and enter you volume settings. From there go to the advanced tab, you could first set it so that it knows you are using headphones and changes the sound style, it is also possible to change a few other settings that may help your situation.

    Good luck!

Could you walk me through how to do that? I just noticed after bringing the computer out of sleep mode, Avast made it's usual loud announcement that it had been updated. After that, the volume was way too loud. After turning the volume back to zero and back up again, the volume returned to normal.
