Nearly 4 out of 5 people will experience back pain at some time in their life...
And some of those are very young school
Would it be nice to be the only 1 of the 5 not to have it.

So having a bag which has a BACKsaver---e.g. wheeled and ergonomically designed well-padded sling on the shoulder is called for...
Any suggestion for a backpack with a retractable wheels like the Jansport TL57-Wheeled Optimizer? That way can be used as a backpack, or a trolley and Thus saving the BaCK :base:
EDIT: The TL-57 has been discontinued so here is a wheeled backpack but is not the same as the well padded one... I believe the TL_57 cost $150+ and perhaps a high cost pushed it to extinction

Searching for a bag which will fit a 17 inch notebook contained on a laptop sleeve. :hardfind:
The owner of the bag will be a college female student so needs a feminine touch to the bag as well.![]()

I just got a Wenger 17" laptop bag. It fits the i9300 really well. There's enough space above the laptop to fit the AC brick and my wireless mouse. It has plenty of storage space and room for documents and books. It can even fit legal size documents. The material is very sturdy and it just looks great. I picked it up for 70$ CDN. The only downside is that it weighs as much as a VW Beetle, albeit most of the weight is the laptop itself. I'll be commuting to work a lot with my lappy, so I predict a very sore shoulder...I need a car.

Backpack with Retractable wheel would be the best suited since the wearer has a back problem. So the presence of wheels is necessary. The wearer is a college female so a little bit trendy is a plus.
Are there bags like that out there for a 17 inch notebook -
Try: http://www.ebags.com/business_cases/wheeled_cases/category_search/index.cfm?N=4001+20022002
unless you did already
This one isnt bad:

That is why a backpack with wheels is what i believe suitable for a college student. SInce it is a backpack that anyother student uses, it will be inconspicuous. It has wheels so as to protect the back of the wearer who already has a back problem. :hardfind:

A potato sack and a rope to tie it off.

I bought my laptop with the "HP STUDENT Bundle." It came with a backpack that I know you can buy seperately from the hpshopping website for about $50. It is stylish since it is directed at the younger adult crowd. I place my X6000 with a 17in screen in it and it fits well. Well padded around the laptop itself and against the user's back. The straps are also quite thick to better distribute the weight. But just like the others, it doesn't have wheels. It also has a large HP symbol on it which might catch the attention of theives as you said before but at the sametime doesn't look like a laptop carrier. So it is somewhat discrete. Here is the site...

I wish there are more options. Now that 19 inch and even 20 inch notebooks are on the way.

I have a Targus XL Metro and it fits my Fujitsu N6010 quite well. The laptop even fits if its in a sleeve.
-
The Targus looks like it can hold anything. Downside is it looks as if bulky...
The brand Targus is associated with laptops and "expensive"... which is a red flag for thieves especially if you travel international or even local.
I wish there are backpacks which have wheels which you can retract so you can hide it. Especially for carrying all the heavy accessories and stuff...
And at the same time, compartments can be collapsed or removed so that when you carry a light load, you can adjust it. So won't look bulky...
Of course, has a laptop compartment that suspends your "precious" cargo for the bumps and drops.
and Blends with the look of "not so expensive" backpack....
And also with good cushion on the sling... I am sure, those heavy notebook leaves a mark on your shoulder.
If only there is such a product...
TOO BAD... No one ever thought of such an idea... -
these bags are very nice, www.chromebags.com but not sure it that is what you are looking for.

The closest one I found with the characteristics of:
1.Good shock absorption (for the laptop)
2. Not bulky (expandable/collapsible compartments)
3. Retractable wheels
4. The look of a "Not so expensive" e.g. Non-Thief Attractant
5. Ergonomic/ backsaver (for the wearer) so you wont develop back problems.
is the Jansport Wheeled Optimizer Rolling Computer Backpack ...
However, It does NOT fit 17" inch size, has non-retractable wheels.
Although it has good shock absorption and backsaver.
It is good enough for 15" inch notebooks but has not fulfilled the 5 criteria.
The Jansport description ....

Another feature that would make it really ideal would be water-resistance. At the very least to minimal rain and snow...for those unexpected days...
So its like a merge of the ruggedness of a mountaineer's bag and the finesse & functionality of a business-class bag.
I guess they still haven't thought of the ideal laptop bag. I hope some manufacturers read this forum and start production. I am pretty sure it will be a big hit.:base:Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
If you do not care about price and want the most durable and just awesome bag available try these. I purchased the new NP5720 17 inch and I have the toshiba 17 inch Brenthaven bag:

It is wonderful -
THE PLATINUM WHEELED CASE
OK Lets go the the criterias.
1. Shock absorption- the addition of springs on the wheels is a good idea beside the shock absorber around the laptop
2. Not bulky - It looks not bulky on the website. What can u say about the compartment where you put your other stuff? What is the capacity of that compartment? What can you put inside?
3. Retractable wheels ---its a full time wheeled case... It would have been better if you can hide the wheels
4. Thief resistance look --- the ALL BLACK business-class look is I believe a thief red flag. Plus it is a case and not a backpack, making it look that you are carrying a very important item inside. Thus, also a thief attractant.
5. Ergonomic/backsaver - it is a backsaver coz you have wheels but you can't wear it so it as a backpack so not ergonomic
6. Tear resistance---its a good thing its made f the best material
7. Water resistance--- there is no note of it in their website.
OVERALL... If they can merge a "Platinum backpack" with a "Platinum Wheeled case" and have a look of their "Urban line e.g. Mt. Baker aand Lopez backpack". Have a cover to hide the wheels when used a a backpack and add removable compartments to expand the stuff you can bring (there are times u need to be full battle gear and times that u need only the essentials)... then
THAT would really be a 7 out 7 on the criteria and truly an excellent wheeled backpack to protect your "precious" investment:base: -
And the search goes on...
-
Best container for your laptop and school supplies that is the least stressful on your back is your friend carrying the stuff for you. LOL. Why don't you get a courier bag. One that with long enough strap that will be slung across your body and change the angle the bag will hang. it'll lessen the strain on one shoulder.
-
I hope you can be my friend ...
But as many doctors and physical therapists say... (seen many patients with back problems... It is an underreported, unpublished truth... ) having an equally balanced bag carried on your shoulder is better than slung on one side... That way the weight is distributed...
Just take a look at the person beside you... Chances are he/she has a bad posture already.
Better still... is having to roll your bag...
The compromise between style, ergonomics and practicality...
The hybrid--- A rolling backback:base:
But that is of course, my view as a part of the healthcare community... Please do tell how it goes with your bag. Please do update us.<!-- / message --><!-- sig --> __________________ -

I have seen a bag with a good 10 foot drop test that is worth mentioning... That is at the sametime expandable...I wonder If there is a wheeled backpack equivalent...:base:
One bag. Two sizes.
You never know when you'll need extra room to carry more, but you also don't want to carry a bigger bag than you have to. The Laptop Armor Expandable Bag is like having two bags in one. Simply unzip the center zipper and the accessories compartment doubles in size. Pocket and file storage, inside and out.
The Expandable Bag has multiple internal and external pockets, for stowing all of your mobile gear. It also has a removable magazine/file organizer, for maximum flexibility.
Ergonomic design lightens your load.
Special care was taken to make the Expandable Bag comfortable to carry. The synthetic leather handle is positioned so your arm rests comfortably against your body. This ensures that you're not off-balance, and makes heavy loads feel lighter. A detachable, padded shoulder strap is also included.
Hard frame. Soft padding.
The key to Laptop Armor's protective capability is the combination of a rigid ABS frame and a padded foam interior. The patented Corner Protection System surrounds the edges of your laptop with multiple layers of foam, insulating it from the outer frame of the laptop compartment. In the event of a fall, the ABS frame absorbs most of the impact, while Foam Spacers cushion your laptop and keep its fragile corners away from the collision.

WWW.ALIENWARE.COM Premium XL backpack! heh.

I've seen some good cases listed here. From my experience there is not one great case that will suite every need. I determined that I would have to buy two or three cases to meet my needs in all situations.
For those who are looking for a wheeled solution, be careful if you are going to use it for airline travel. Some airlines are requiring all wheeled bags to be gate-checked and put in the cargo compartment. I know I don't want my laptop to leave me. Trust me. I'm an airline pilot and it's a fairly new rule for my company, but unfortunately that's the way it is. You can only hope for a flight attendant that is willing to bend the rules for you, but I wouldn't risk it. I personally have learned to hate having too much luggage or too large of a piece of luggage to lug around. When it comes to suitcases I'd rather spend say $100 and replace it every 2 years than spend $400 and hope it lasts 8 years. You really can find something suitable for cheap. You just may not get that "my bag was more expensive and therefore better than yours" effect or that cool brand name recognition. I would recomend not buying a bag that screams "There is a laptop in here!" I don't want to advertise for thieves. Like those Dell cases that say Dell right on them! If I was a thief looking to steal a laptop, I would go for the sure thing. I'm leaning toward something smaller, but will still fit my i9300 plus accessories.
That said, my buddy has been using the same laptop backpack for years and it has put up with tons of abuse. It's from a company called Spire. The 17" laptops will need the Meta model backpack. It better be good for $180!
http://www.spireusa.com/
I liked that fact that eBags.com has a "laptop finder" feature that allows you to pick your laptop model or dimensions and it will only show you what is big enough. Of course eBags doesn't have some of the higher end stuff mentioned on this forum. Read the reviews though, a few say the bag actually was not large enough for a 17 incher. Since I'm not going to buy 3 cases I'm still torn on what I am going to buy. I'll probably just be throwing it in a regular backpack for now.
Help!!! Bag for a 17 inch notebook... HArd to Find...
