So i am getting my New desktop (in sig) hoping tomorrow but i still havent found the right monitor, i have about £180 to spend and would like some opinions on the best i can get for my money.
So far i have found 2 :
Option 1
Option 2
The monitor will be used for gaming and every other use for my PC
i would also be interested in connecting my PS3 up to it as well, BUT how would sound work if the monitor doesnt have speakers?
EDIT : i put it in the Off topic as its not go anything to do with Laptops, kinda shocked to see it moved but hey![]()

I'd probably go with the Philips because of the HDMI and DVI inputs, especially if you want to ever connect your PS3 to it. I actually have a Philips LCD TV and it looks pretty darn good. I bought it at Sam's Club because it was huge and affordable. I'm very happy with the picture quality. I've been using my Dell XPS M1530 as a media PC and have it connected via HDMI to the Philips LCD TV. It definitely looks great. Hopefully their computer monitors are of similar quality.
I'm not sure how the PS3 handles separate audio when using HDMI but I know the XBOX360 comes with a dongle that has stereo and optical outputs. I would hope that Sony offers something like that. Then you could run the RCA into just about any speaker system or even use the optical into a home theater for 5.1 sound. The PS3 may actually only have an optical output so you'd need a receiver capable of receiving that signal (or find an adapter, if they make something like that). Someone else may have more helpful information for that part of the question. I'm not a PS3 user.
Good luck picking your monitor! -

with HDMI the audio goes with the video, as the monitor (philips one) has a USB socket could i connect a usb speaker set to it and have audio come out through that?
-
i'd say phillips is ur choice... has better imputs... the LG was great and i would have said to buy that if it has HDMI and DVI imputs.

okay thanks. what do you think about using a PS3 on it? if i use a HDMI cable between the 2 how could i get decent sound? using the USB slot on the monitor with a usb set of speakers?

I say go for the Phillips.

You're rushing OP. Extend your purchase deadline and give yourself more time to get more input. One day is not enough time unless it's not that important to you?
Anyway, I typically take months before I make a purchase of importance. Needless to say, I seldom make a purchase I later regret. But that's your choice. -

i have been looking for several days, but havent found much in my price range
and as it will be with my new desktop i kinda need it sooner rather then later
i could alwasy upgrade to dual monitors with the second being a lot better one in the future -
I did a quick search regarding the PS3 and audio output. It seems as though a lot of people take the route of using the HDMI for video and an optical cable for audio. The Philips will not likely transfer the audio from the HDMI out through the USB.
Here is what I would do in your situation: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071017233022AARlrYL
This suggests using the HDMI for video and the regular composite cables for the audio (stereo). Run the red and white RCA cables into whatever amp/speakers that you want to use. You may need to get an RCA to 3.5m adapter, depending on the speakers. My Z2300 has a standard 3.5mm jack that goes into the headphone out as well as an adapter to allow for male RCA connections. You could use something like this if needed.
Do you have a speaker system already or is that something that you'll be buying later? -

thanks for the info, no i dont have a speaker system yet, i would be buying that later - when i know that the sound will work

How much is actually your price range and what do you plan to do with that monitor? HP is bringin out new monitors in 22" and 24" soon.

1920x1200, SIPS not TN, more expensive than TN but early signs say cheaper than competitor's offerings at the moment. -

yeah heard about them but they will be out of my price range - max £200 i have to spend

Don't forget about LG's excellent warranty. 3 years warranty including dead pixels. Trounces the competitions warranties, and HP's warranty offering is a joke, 1 year compared to the standard 3 years? Come on HP, you either know your monitors are going to cark it after a year, or you're just being cheap.
Actually, check that LG still have the great warranty on their new screen offerings, I can't see why they wouldn't, but still... -

I was giving serious consideration to this LG monitor but decided it would be too big for my desk.
