Hi, new to this site, really hope I can get some help trying to get my new laptop optimized for some gaming. Other sites have not been helpful. I hope this is the right place for this as well, didn't want to post in the laptop cooler guide as I feel it'd get lost in the sheer numbers of people posting there. I can move there though if that's the protocol. Anyway, I feeled out the forum and....

    1) Budget
    A: up to ~ $75

    2) Is noise an issue for you? Are you annoyed at noticeable noise?
A: not particularly, as long as it's not crazy loud? I suppose I would like a medium to quiet one if it will still keep the lapto

    3) Post a picture of the under side of your notebook along with basic measurements like shown earlier in this guide. (just link to a previous post if your notebook has been posted before)
A: http://i.imgur.com/yXmFbRK.jpeg and imgur: the simple image sharer - Laptop is 15.6 inches. The laptop blows hot our out of the vent shown in the second picture on the top left of the laptop. It is also the hottest part of the laptop. Not sure where intake is...

    4) Do you have a color preference?
    A: not particularly

    5) Any brands you would like to avoid?
A: no but I've been recommended a couple of cooler master ones so far. X3 and U3 I believe. The U series were very tempting for me as you can choose the area to cool, and many laptops I've dealt with, and this one in particular, get hot in one area. For the lenovo it is the far left where the vent (hot air flowing out) is. However, I defer to anyone elses input. All those fans in the buyers guide look great and I'm having a difficult time choosing.

Not sure about the newer coolers out there, but I have great success with the cooler master notepal u3. In my old GT70, my temps dropped by an average of 12-15c under load.

There's a new cooler from cooler master...u3 plus. Cooler Master: NOTEPAL U3 PLUS

I'm not too sure on the differences...or whether it''ll actually make my laptop cooler compared to the regular u3. anyone know if the u3 plus is worth it?

The differences between the U3 and U3 Plus seems to be on the physical design (U3 Plus is slightly bigger) and some added features as opposed to the actual cooling. If you can find the older version for a lower price, I'd go for it

I have Cooler Master U3 and am happy with it, however as your laptop is a 15,6" I'd perhaps instead look at the Notepal U2. The U2 fits 14~15" laptops, up to 17" size.

You can compare the dimensions here
    Cooler Master: NOTEPAL U2
    Cooler Master: NOTEPAL U3

The U2 is actually pretty small, 15" notebooks' sides will go over the edges.

I used to have those steely frame cooler with rubber all over the place. maybe not coolmaster, I'm not sure
I hate it though because the rubber will get out of place the longer you use it. my laptop also keep sliding downward. Maybe it's just me

So now I'm using this cooler
    ZALMAN Model ZM-NC1500-B Notebook accessory - Newegg.com
It works well for me, from time to time, you need to clean the inside though. It's not that hard.

and yes, don't get way-to-small cooler.

Could you see how much cooler the cpu and gpu are with this cooler, ive heard that the y510p just cannot be cooled and most laptop coolers don't work for it.
And do you have a 4700mq or 4702mq.
    Thanks
    ;
Edit: Also the intake would be the edges of the larger mesh on the bottom, so that may be the optimal spot for the fans though i'm not sure.

With U3 my HDX 18 laptop has a slight overhang. With my 17" Precision its a custom fit.

Hi, I'd be happy to. However, I have no idea which software to install to monitor temparatures accurately. Any suggestions anyone?

How hot is it getting without a pad right now? Are you using SLI?

You could use cpuid hwmonitor or realtemp. Realtemp can log temperatures every so often so you could play a game or something and check the temps afterwards.
