    I don't know why your graphics card wouldn't support that resolution. No opinion on the monitors. They look pretty similar.

    Go for the 940BW. I have the 931BW and its awesome. Doesn't strain my eyes after long exposure.

    I think the obvious choice is the Samsung Syncmaster 931C...with its 2000:1 contrast ratio and fast response time I believe it's generally acclaimed to be one of the best 19" LCD's out there. Also the Viewsonic VX and VP 9xx series are highly regarded.
