I had made a previous thread.. but for some reason it has been deleted.
So I'll start again (I used the questionaire on the DCR site, I posted there.. but they take their time on replying.. and I had better answers here anyways).

    Budget
About $600 Aussie (so =$590 USD)

    Size

Something that's not SLR size (ie: FAT.. I can't stand those.. ). Doesn't have to be sony thin.

    Features
How 12 or more (even thought I won't be making large photo's)

    * What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x)
ULTRA ZOOM! 10 at the very least

    * How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
    About 8

Do you care for manual exposure modes (shutter priority, aperture priority, manual)?
    Mmmm.. doesn't matter either way

    General Usage
    * What will you generally use the camera for?
For now, Euro trip in December. Otherwise (going out clubbing, concerts (raves, proper bands etc..) And some sporting events

    * Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
    Don't think so.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
    Occasionally yes.

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
If I do go to sporting events.

    Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
    No

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
    Yes:
Sony Alpha NEX-3 ( does the NEX3 come with those extra 18-55mm zoom lenses?)
Sony Alpha NEX-5 (No idea what the difference is between the NEX3 and NEX5.. or the K/H/D models)

    Or Canon PowerShot SX210 IS

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Wide Angle, OPTIONAL weatherproof, and probably stabilization. AT LEAST 720p recording as I do take videos.

Thanks alot guys, I am MOST CERTAINLY open to other ideas and suggestions.. and presume I'm buying goods off eBay so they could be cheaper (but most probs from some shop in Melbourne, Australia). So for now ignore if the camera's fall outside price range

    Thanks!

For information about the NEX-3 and NEX-5, you may want to look at Digital Photography Review's review of them. As for coming with or without lenses, it really depends on which kit you buy; different kits will come with different included lenses.

For a more varied look, you may be quite interested in Digital Photography Review's Compact Super Zoom group test which pits several "Travel Zoom" cameras like the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS against each other.

If you're looking for a higher zoom, there's also the Super Zoom group test, but that's getting closer to the DSLR size that you dislike.

The only problem with the G11 would be his requirement for 10x zoom. The G11 only offers 5x zoom standard, and if he wants more, it'll be through some troublesome (and usually expensive) third party adaptors. I guess the question is how important that 10x zoom requirement really is.
