    Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased an acer 5920g laptop, used, and would like to make sure that i can control the overheating of this laptop.

I was wondering if there is a good cooling pad or mat etc... that would be perfect for this laptop or if any old square laptop cooler would do.

    thank you.

    Welcome to NBR!

    Get started here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3005

I'd also download HWmonitor and keep an eye on your temps. I don't know about others but I always have HWmonitor running.

About notebook coolers, it depends what you want it for. Portability? Power? comfort?

I recommend the Zalman coolers if you've got money to spend, they're quite balanced. I have an NC-2000 and love it. The Cryo LX can offer serious cooling at the cost of portability. Targus Has some really neat, portable active cooling solutions, like the chill mat. Lastly, for ultra portability you can try a passive cooler like the XPAD Slim.

I'm not sure if the 5920g is a gaming laptop or not. If it is, and has a powerful video card, you'll want to be extra careful with temps.

    Good luck!

I got the same problem with my 5920g, especially the nvidia 8 series tend to die because of the overheating. I'd definitly go with a cryo lx or zalman notebookcooler. Although a cheap logitech cooler with 1 fan also did the job for me, but i'm not sure if that will be sufficient for the next summer.

You could also try to take out the gpu and apply some thermal paste, since the acer aspire 5920g uses mxm slots for its gpu's you can take them out easily and apply the paste. You could even upgrade your gpu, if you want i'll post a link to the acer aspire 5920g gpu upgrading forum.

Oh yeah, that's bad. You need powerful cooling for that notebook. Sorry to say mate, but it doesn't get much worse than an 8600m gt (trust me, I've experienced it)

Like Student said, I'd go with the Cryo or zalman...

The 8600's suffer from "positive feedback". As it wears from overheating, it runs hotter, making it wear even faster. If that makes sense.
