    I just purchased an external HDD enclosure so that I could take the internal HDD out of my laptop and continue using it even as I throw out my old laptop. The enclosure is designed for IDE notebook HDDs . However, the HDD I am attempting to use is an EIDE drive.

    Should I just return the enclosure to the store where I got and find someplace that actually makes an EIDE enclosure? Or should I just go ahead and get a new hard drive?

    EIDE = IDE = PATA

    You should be able to use what you have fine, those terms are used interchangeably.
