I have a dell xps m1710 and I have a 3rd party battery installed along with a 3rd party power supply which has the correct 19.5 voltage and 6.7 voltage. and I went to a computer shop and brought my laptop with me to get a stuck screw removed and they told me my laptop isn't safe to use and that it would break if I used my 3rd party battery and power supply. I only run my laptop off of ac power from the wall outlet and I have been using it for a month with no problems but the guy at computer shop told me not to use it ? im confused its never had any problems with my powersupply :/ ? I plan on buy the official battery and power supply but the computer tech never got back in touch with me ? he said he was going to contact his supplier ? well that's why I don't have the official battery since it got my m1710 its that you cant find the oem battery anywhere :/

what do you guy's think ? would I have any problems. my laptop is well taken care of, and I don't overclock.

    please respond :):hi2:

THe problem with unofficial Batteries/CHargers is this...usually an OEM battery has a backup ground if the ground in the charger were to fail...with cheap third party knockoffs often the charger AND the battery have no ground which CAN lead to a perma fry of your motherboard. Also just because they SAY their the proper voltage does not mean they are. I can mark a plastic box 20 volt only for it to actually be 9. THird party accessories are only as good as the maker...which often sucks. I have had more than one third party adapter in the past smoke up one catch fire and one the connector was so loose it fell out of the laptops back end barely moving it. SO if you choose third party do your research and you'll be ok...buy a cheap 20$ Amazon odd branded product? And yes it's likely it could damage your laptop.

P.S Forgive the terrible grammar and random caps but i'm on beer #6 and it's been a longggggg week :p

    Cheers

ONe of the video reviews i did on a third party DELL adapter...that says it all how bad the quality can be. I took it apart soon afterwards and sure enough it was NOT grounded.
