I have Just bought a 120GB Formac External Hardrive from DABS.com.

I plugged the USB Y Cable into two of my USB ports where the computer told me it was recognised.

Unfortunately it didn't appear in My Computer. Formac advises (in the Quickstart Guide and the online support) to format the drive in Windows' Disk Management. When i opened disk management, the drive appeared, but the option to format didn't. Is there any alternative process that i can use to format it? Or is the drive faulty and needs returning?

    cheers.

i'm not sure if this is what i require; it may hinder my chances of gettin a replacement if i have used third party software to format the drive.

Is there no workaround through windows?

If the drive is not recognized by Windows (under My Computer) but can be seen in Computer Management, it could mean that a drive letter has not been properly assigned to it. If that is the case, what you'll need to do is to right click the drive in Disk Management and change the drive letter to one that is available.

    cheers!
