Looking for a high capacity 15.4" notebook backpack at a reasonable price, which to me means around $100 or so.

So far these two look pretty interesting. Which one do you think is better, and why?

Is there any other high capacity 15.4" notebook backpacks at a reasonable price that you could recommend?

I have the Swiss Gear Synergy which holds tons of stuff, as well as the Pegasus and the IBEX (the latter two can take a 17" laptop.)

If you can't already tell, I am a fan of Swiss Gear products. :)

For the choices you included...my eyes keep going back to the High Sierra Access ;) :) It comes in several colors choices, and just looks to be an all around nice b.pack! :)

And, I know you will make the right choice for your lappy's backpack! ;) :)

Morning, Cin. I'm using my Synergy this afternoon on a business trip to NYC. It's packed full yet still seems compact next to some of the other backpacks I've seen.

Hope you get your Synergy today! :)

"High capacity" of what? Books? Odd gadgets or tools?

A couple of years ago, I bought a Lowenpro pack. They make different models, and have discontinued the one I have, but the beauty of theirs is the number of little extra spaces. I carry various tools and dohickeys around, and it's great for keeping them organized. It wouldn't be good for books or clothes though.

Excellent construction, they've been making proffesional-grade camera bags for years so they know how to do strong, versatile, and well-padded.

I saw that bag in person at my local camera store, along with the whole lowepro computer/camera bag line. Not impressed with their laptop protection. I shoved my hand down the laptop compartment all the way to the bottom and it touched my other hand pressing on the outside of the bag. So if you set the bag down on the ground you have just a thin layer of padding to absorb the shock between the laptop and the hard floor. Same deal with the crumpler bags that I looked at.

I wouldn't put my laptop in anything other than a Tom Bihn Brain Cell or something that protects the laptop inside a suspended cradle.

There was something missing then, a half-inch thick pad that goes in the bottom of the laptop compartment. It velcros into place, so would be easy to walk away with at a store.

I didn't look at the crumpler bags, always been a back-pack guy...

That padding is what I pushed against when I was at the store, and it's not enough to protect the laptop in a straight drop to the floor. Even if lowepro put an inch of padding in there I'd still prefer having my laptop inside the brain cell where the suspension never lets the laptop get near the floor much like the springy cord keeps the bungee jumper from smacking head first into the ground :p

I ordered some of the North Face backpacks and I love them! I just need to decide which one I am going to keep and which ones to return. I have narrowed it down to the Box Shot, Surge, and Big Shot. I also ordered the Sure Shot and Hot Shot. My m1530 with 9 cell didn't fit real well in the latter two.
I like how the Box Shot and Surge have seperate laptop comartments. The Surge is my favorite except that it doesn't have load lifter straps (I doubt many would care though since most of you probably don't know what load lifter straps are). I had previously ordered the Wenger Synergy, but I returned it because it just wasn't my style and looked to huge and boxy. It really needed some compression straps.
