I was looking at either the rat5 or rat7 gaming mouse for when I purchase my new machine. I have a Deathadder currently, and love it, but am looking for something different. The fact that they are so customizable is really alluring.

I've a RAT9. it's a wireless RAT7. really the best mouse in the world for me. but it's a personal choice. some people don't get used to it. I can't imagine myself using other mouse. can't say anything bad about RAT7 other then not being wireless and the high price. but then, good things are costly.

Yeah, I probably would not spring for the wireless for the extra $20. I'm trying to decide if I would rather get the 7 or 5.

This is my experience with them:

Personally, guys, I would avoid them altogether.
Logitech is #1 with their aftermarket support.
Buy a mouse with confidence, knowing that if anything goes wrong with it down the road, you'll get a free replacement 2-Day-UPS'd to you with no charge. -
never had a problem with RAT9 support. My first mouse was DOA. replacement was made within a week. no questions asked.

Europe has better consumer protection laws-support than over here, that's for sure (minus Quebec).
For example, Italy forces laptop manufacturers to provide a 2 year warranty instead of the standard 1 year warranty I recently read in an Apple article. -
From what I know, they are supposed to be quite good. If you like the customizability of the mice, go for it. However, I honestly think a Deathadder is pretty sufficient for gaming...
But like Voodooi said, why not Logitech? Pretty good stuff there as well. Though it lacks the R.A.T. mice customizability... and you are looking for "something different"... -
Personally the customisability is overrated - if your hand doesn't suit the basic neither-claw-nor-palm shape of the mouse, the customisations don't add a whole lot of genuine variety to the shape. In that way, it's no different to a mouse with an apparently more fixed shape.
I also think it's horribly unbalanced and indeed, you're better off going Logitech. It is hella cool looking though - especially the white ones IMO - which is why I keep it on one of my seldom-used Macs. -
But that has nothing to do with the company return polices. Actually by law they could take up to 45 days to replace it or to give my money back. -
For my own personal experience when I first received the mouse it seemed very foreign to me, just the sheer appearance made me wonder why I purchased it because it seemed very uncomfortable but after using it, I noticed it felt and was very similar to the Logitech G9x, in fact they literally are similar just that RAT has a lot more to customize (weights, pinky rest etc.).
How are the r.a.t series of mice?
