I tried getting support from my notebook seller and they told me to go into the “Control Panel” and click on “Mouse”. Then click on “Device Settings” in the top tab, and it should display the trackpad, then click “Disable” and apply

However, when I click on 'Mouse' in the control panel I don't have a 'Device Settings' tab - only pointers, pointer options, hardware, buttons, wheel and hardware tabs. I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit and can only assume that I'm looking in the wrong place.

I downloaded TouchFreeze which locks out the touchpad as you type as a temporary solution but this also affects my USB mouse which makes gaming very awkward (can't move and shoot for FPS games)...

Any idea's what I should be doing?

Device manager > Mice and other pointing devices > "Your touch pad name" > right click > Disable.

You should probably consider downloading a driver for your trackpad instead of relying on the standard one built into Windows. That'll give you much more control over your trackpad settings.

Ah yes I just realised the manufacturer's way is actually with official drivers. With those there is the "Device Settings" and disable option.

Ah - turns out I never installed the driver for it. Just getting out the disc that came with my laptop, should have it done soon.

Talk about a rookie error - no wonder I couldn't find the settings...
