Okay so I have an HP dv5t. And I have these speakers from an old desktop lying around so I thought why not use them for my laptop. The thing is that its powered by some 12 volt DC plug that connects to the tower. These speakers came with the said tower when my parents bought it. I was wondering what do I need to do or buy to make it work with the laptop?

I'd prefer if I could find some way to power it through a wall outlet and then plug the 3.5 jack into my laptop. I can take pictures of the cable and port if needed.

just get a mutli-voltage ac-dc power adapter from any radio shack or electronics hardware

these adapters has multiple voltage select, polarity selects and dc sockets

would it matter if the adapter has the words "for laptops" in the name?

    nope..... it's not for laptops....
it's suppose to be for small dc volt gadgets
laptops needs higher voltage and amps

your speakers just between 3v-12v with 1-4amps
