How do you get the most out of your laptop battery in terms of use?

    Aside from
    - Low brightness
    - No sound
    - Wifi off
    - Putting it in sleep mode often

I really want to get a 15 inch convertible with an n trig pen. Just to have such a big surface to write on and do stuff.

But their battery life is pretty meh compared to 13 inch haswell ultrabooks. And no one makes replaceable batteries anymore. It feels like I won't quite get what I want until broadwell comes out assuming the 15 inch penabled hybrids haven't died out by then.

Well there isn't that much you can do aside from turning off all unnecessary things. As an owner of a penabled tablet (mine's 13" though), it's kind of that digitizer that takes a huge chunk of the battery life, although my unit came with a battery instead of the DVD drive.

Batteries! Batteries! Batteries! Order the HD battery and more than one. I do this with all my portable devices. Its part of the budget.

    >>HD battery

What is this? I thought HD was high definition and that had something to do with screen resolution.

There are some old penabled convertibles with exchangeable battery. T904 aside, some of them seem very thick and there's not much I can do to test them beforehand to see if I would write on a thick slab.

I would also be very hesitant to go through trying to install windows 8.1 on the older devices because I heard that it can lead to alot of headache and problems.

Is windows 8.1 and the new versions worth it for a penabled convertible?

Probably a hard drive bay battery?

Like the above poster said, HD battery likely means a hard drive bay battery. Some computers give you the option to swap out bays for an ODD, extra HDD/SSD or battery.

Like I said, unless you're in the market to buy and swap out more batteries like Krane mentioned, there isn't much additional you can do. If it's a new computer, Windows 8 is pretty decent on battery life from what I've read (I'm running Windows 7 on a T5010 so no direct experience).

I was wondering the same thing myself, and then I came by this thread and thought I'd investigate more. I also try to maximize my battery because I'm out and about a lot and hauling around the power cord is a hassle and takes up space. I've been looking into getting a ssd batter for my future laptop and I came across this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...orage/714868-ssds-battery-life-pointless.html . Seems that people are pretty mixed and as with most things, it just depends. Sorry that probably wasn't helpful at all, but I thought the hd vs. ssd thread was interesting.

I suppose to get more from your battery means you have to have more batteries. I use an extra media bay battery in my latitude and I also carry one spare batt as well. Depending on models they are not that expensive.
