This is frustrating me. I got that belkin gigabit expresscard and I'm loving the speed on my lan and internet. However it's a 34mm card which to my shock has a rather loose "fit" in the 54mm slot.

I move the laptop slightly, and the card pulls out sideways at an angle, and it only has to happen slightly to disconnect my card, aka the internet. There's nothing there to lock it in place! No latches, locks or clicks. Great design, this standard was.

Any suggestions for what you can do with 34mm cards in a "Standard" slot? Can I put something safe in the empty of space so the card does not move around?
Although I do like to move it around the room and use it on the bed/sitting in chair, even if it's just on the desk, who doesn't move laptops around...

    Thanks for your help :eek2:

Off topic, but... do you mind if I steal your thread title to post on whitewhine.com? ;)

As you your question, could you try maybe taping it in? I know it's not elegant, but it might work.

If it means someone might see it and come up with some magic solution, sure. ;)
At the moment I'm open for anything imaginative. (no, not anything  :D )

I had the same problem, except in my case it was a little more dire because it was an eSATA expresscard bus (and it would disconnect when I was transferring data to the external HD!!). Anyways, what I ended up doing was buying a expresscard 54 dummy filler from Dell and built a support brace for the 34 mm card. Unfortuantely, if I had a camera, I would take a picture to show you, but I don't have a camera/camera phone. In any case, the deisgn really does suck. Hopefully, they wil develop a expresscard 54 to 34 adapter.

    Good Luck!

What's even more stupid is that it's not only loose/unstable sideways, but also vertically! I lift the laptop up, or place it down, it disconnects quite easily!

Glad to hear from someone else in the same boat, if you ever do have a camera around feel free to post a picture, for now I think I'll just try to build as strong a fortress as I can.
    thanks

No I meant basically a host adapter that plugs into a 54mm slot, but outputs to another housing that can take a 34 mm input. They have these things for expresscard to PCMCIA but not to another expresscard (guess because it would be redundant). Given these disconnect issues however, I hope someone will make an adapter soon.

    Something like this perhaps:
