I've got an XPS M1530 with an 8600M GT DDR3 card, and I was thinking of buying myself a 22" external monitor, most likely with 1680x1050 resolution. My laptop's screen has the same res, so if I hook up this computer to an external monitor running the exact same resolution, I can expect my games to run just as smoothly as they do now, correct? Or does it loose some of its power when you hook it up to an external monitor, even though the resolution hasn't changed? I was thinking of getting this monitor, seems like a pretty good price and a great size-

no i dont think the performance will change.

if the card function as a mirror of your computer screen or the notebook's built-in screen is turned off.

    never test one myself though.

It should be the same. I wouldn't see any reason for a difference.

I have been running my Vostro with the 8400M 128M card on a 22" LCD externally - and playing WoW and COD4 at native resolution (with a few fancy bits turned off though) and it runs just fine :D
