Alright, I'm going away to college in the Fall, and naturally I'm wanting to take my new Dell Inspiron 700m (12.1", widescreen) laptop with me. Now, I'm currently searching for a backpack that will be able to hold it (safely and securely) as well as my textbooks and wired notebooks for class. I've been doing a little research and read reviews on this site for the Mobile Edge Premium Backpack, and it seems like a great backpack, but I'm only 5'4" tall (and I'm thin), so I'm afraid it may be too big for me (based on what I've read in reviews, that is; I do not know if the size would be best suited for my needs as a college student or not). I was also looking into the Booq Boa.XM Backpack, which also seems to be a nice backpack (though it is twice as much as the Mobile Edge). I'm not quite sure whether or not the Boa.XM would hold my 700m very well.

I guess I really have three questions. First is whether or not my 700m would fit a Boa.XM. Second is, if so, does the quality of it justify it being twice as much as Mobile Edge Premium Backpack? And lastly, if not, then is there a good alternative to the Mobile Edge Premium Backpack that I may have overlooked that is within a reasonable price?

If anyone can help answer these questions or offer some insight, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

After much searching I bought an osprey focus. It's the only one that had everything I was looking for.
    1. They have a small/medium size designed for those who are smaller and it's easily adjusted.
    2. It's incredibly spacious as is the slightly smaller backpack called the flex.
    3. There is a very solid laptop sleeve- I'm sure my laptop wouldn't be hurt if I dropped the pack.
    4. Many pockets- several zip ones on the outside, organizer on inside, place for water bottle and cell phone. It has a place for a cd player if you want to listen while walking- I use it to store more fragile small items.
    5. It holds more than I realized until today when I stuffed this huge package in it and it still had room for my notebooks.
    6. Most importantly- when full and on my back it is incredibly comfortable.
Mine is 1600 cubic inches and the flex is 1400. It will definitely fit your notebook.
I love it!! And I use it without my notebook for just a regular pack every day.

I bought my laptop with the "HP STUDENT Bundle." It came with a backpack that I know you can buy seperately from the hpshopping website for about $50. It is stylish since it is directed at the younger adult crowd. I place my X6000 with a 17in screen in it and it fits well. Well padded around the laptop itself and against the user's back. The straps are also quite thick to better distribute the weight. Here is the site...

I have a Targus backpack, ebags calls it the Deluxe Laptop Backpack. I've had mine for about 4 years, carried it to Japan and hiked up and down mountains with it, walked all over Vienna with it, flown all over with it. Never had a problem, its never even started to stretch or rip. Its light, it protects my notebook and has plenty of room for classbooks etc, I carried it for 4 years of undergrad and am starting law school with it in the fall. I can't recommend this bag enough, oh and I'm a skinny little guy too, not quite that short but fairly close, and I've never had a problem with it.
